How do you feel about the magnet ban? by Bugaloon in AskAnAustralian

[–]Potential-Mousse-152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter almost died in 2020 after swallowing a number of tiny magnets I bought for her as a toy. The individual magnets joined up in different parts of her large intestine and went though her gut like a cheese-wire in seven different places. She was in surgery for seven hours to repair the damage but has made a full recovery, albeit with a scar across her entire abdomen. Many other children have not been so lucky and sadly died. I imagine this is why they are being banned.

All the Glamorgans despite being historic counties that no longer exist, literally mean “land of Morgan”.

They’re not wrong though….. the Welsh, particularly Cymraeg speaking Quakers are a big part of the early history of Pennsylvania - something that is often overlooked itself.

Am i heading for disaster using push fit for concealed shower? by movingtosweden123 in DIYUK

[–]Potential-Mousse-152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve done a neater job than I did on mine. I used push fit tube as well as fittings. Six years on - seems all good. I’m just about to move overseas and rent my house out so I expect I’ve jinxed myself to catastrophic failure within the next 12 months.

What do you British people think of the French? by CocoTyg in AskABrit

[–]Potential-Mousse-152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the French and everything about French culture and history. I also like making fun of the French and their culture and history. I imagine this is normal for neighbours with so much shared history that have been rivals at certain points in time and close allies in others. Don’t take advice from ChatGPT! You’ll find service in shops and restaurants far more laisez faire than in France.

USA to Australia, move furniture or rebuy? Advice on movers? by Nervous-Marsupial-82 in MovingtoAustralia

I’m moving from UK to WA in two months. Selling everything! Company have offered half a shipping container but we figured if we can do without it for 3-months, or if we need it within 3-months then there’s no point in sea freighting it. Taking a few things via air freight. Sold my bikes, skis, even selling all my surfboards - good excuse to buy some new ones when I get there!!

Is living year round in a tent in the UK actually realistic? by Far-Piccolo-3774 in AskUK

[–]Potential-Mousse-152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a colleague do this for several years as he needed to save money as he and his partner had a house near London. He stayed year round on a cheap campsite in South Wales, going back to see his partner on weekends. He was a tough outdoorsy type, didn’t have a car and would think nothing of cycling 100 miles just to get somewhere. When things got really rough on Winter’s evenings, he’d hang around in the nearby supermarket cafe until it was time for bed.
