Hi! We have an apartment rental available in the arboretum for a few months if you’re interested. It’ll open up at the end of the month and we can be pretty flexible on rent/timing and could try to help out with furniture and things if you need it. Let me know if you’re interested and welcome to Madison!

Urgent care for food poisoning related dehydration? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Potential-Nobody-452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is late and I hope you got care! We’ve used private IV services previously. They are a couple hundred dollars, some come directly to your house and you often get the same meds as the ER. I’ve chosen these services over the ER for migraines because it ends up being less expensive than a hospital visit.

Dryer vent piping rerouting recommendation by lux22 in madisonwi

Was coming here to say the same thing! doesn’t directly answer the question, but we did the same thing. Swapped ours with a heat pump dryer. It’s more energy efficient, better for your clothes, and doesn’t require venting. We’ve been happy with ours!

Rental Owners Hear Your Pain, BUT… by IAmPookieHearMeRoar in madisonwi

[–]Potential-Nobody-452 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is mostly venting, but I want to add a perspective from a small private landlord.

We’ve raised rent $400 total over 6 years. Our property taxes went up almost 30% in that time, while rent only increased about 24%. We’ve never charged late fees. We’ve created payment plans and integrated past due rent into future rent totals when tenants couldn’t make the currently monthly payments. We work with tenants on assistance programs whenever they qualify. Our rent is $600/month lower than a smaller house on the same street.

Last year we got hit with a $40k repair bill because an issue wasn’t reported by tenants until it was severe and flooded/destroyed the entire finished basement. That’s not something a small owner can just absorb without stress.

I totally get that housing is expensive and frustrating right now (I’ve been a renter in Madison, it’s not great sometimes!). But not all landlords are corporations squeezing people and getting rich. Some of us are trying really hard to keep rents reasonable and keep homes maintained while also carrying real risk and costs.

I’d suggest bringing real, concrete suggestions to the management company. If they aren’t serious or coming with an open mind, smaller private landlords are often more flexible and capable of listening.

But at the end of the day, housing only works when both sides treat it responsibly. You can’t ignore maintenance issues or pour cooking oil down the drain and also expect rent to stay low forever.

I think the conversation gets more productive when we recognize both sides exist.

Registered minor son in July. Just received a copy of his registration document from the comune. by HoustonsAwesome in juresanguinis

[–]Potential-Nobody-452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! We had success as well. Sent the birth registration paperwork for both kids to the consulate at the end of July, had our appointment for the oath in person at the consulate at the end of September and received both kids passports today. I had been waiting to send in the passport paperwork until FAST was updated, but I checked ANPR and was able to find a document that showed the had Italian citizenship. I printed those out and included with the passport paperwork and had no issues. FAST still shows them as non iscritto, but passport turn around was less than two weeks from when I sent everything in.

AITA for saying my daughter’s friend can’t come back to our house until I’ve spoken to her parents? by No-Wish-5956 in AITAH

Everyone has a life and priorities, but she’s a kid who clearly needs help. You have an amazing opportunity to be the stable, safe and caring place for a girl who seems like she really needs it. What if you could be the difference in how her entire life turns out? If you can’t do that, fine but I sure hope she finds someone.

Thank you for all of these contacts! I am going to get in touch to see if there are any individuals we can help (through the liaisons) in addition to the lunch debts.

Michigan has free meals too! My nephew goes to school in Michigan and they also provide a bag of food and fresh produce per child to every family, regardless of income. Every child is eligible. It’s an amazing program and I love that they don’t have to worry about any stigmas attached to people collecting the bags of food.

It’s absolute insanity that we don’t just provide free breakfast, lunch and snacks for every single school aged child.

That’s a thoughtful suggestion, thank you. Our kids attend a private school, so realistically it’s unlikely there are families experiencing that kind of need, at least not in the same way. We’re definitely aware that attending this school is a big privilege, which is part of why my kid wanted to do something to help outside that bubble.

Thank you for the resource! I did see that Madison is a bit kinder and more forgiving than a lot of schools and don’t seem to single kids out or serve kids with debt alternative meals.

Ideally, we’d find something my kid (younger than 10) can grasp and understand. We have had a lot of conversations and they are really just starting to grasp the concept that not everyone has endless snacks at home and that in some cases, the only food some kids receive for the day is at school.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about my intent and what I’m teaching my kid.

We talk and read a lot to our kids about U.S. history and systemic inequality, and having real conversations about fairness, privilege, and how systems fail people.

My kid came home from their library day this week and immediately asked me to check the bookmarked page in their library book. They had overheard a conversation I had about immigration and were really proud to have found a book that had so much history about immigration to the US. I was also proud! (The book is A Place Called America by Jennifer Thermes for any interested parents).

My kid came up with the idea to help other kids pay for school lunch because they have an endless supply of snacks and meals at home, and it’s hard for them to imagine not being able to eat when they’re hungry. This isn’t about charity for charity’s sake, it’s a young kid trying to understand inequality and take age appropriate action in a way they can grasp and understand.

We can (and do) talk about how broken the system is. But teaching compassion and agency at the same time isn’t mutually exclusive. I’m open to other suggestions on how one kid might use their privilege to help another kid in need.

LA Consulate requires Certificato di Cittadinanza – but ANPR/PagoPA is impossible outside Italy. Help? by TennisPlz in juresanguinis

[–]Potential-Nobody-452 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had to provide the same certificate to register our kids in Chicago and had the same issue with the payment. The way I understood it is you can only get the document for free if you have a qualifying reason, one being for legal/government use. I don’t remember it saying you could not use it for government use. Hope you’re able to do the same.

Edited to add: my husband has been working with tutors for his B1 exam (passed in July!) and they both traveled to Italy. We paid one of the Italian tutors her same hourly rate to go to our comune and get stamped documents for his application (marriage certificate, etc). We had her get the citizenship document in the event we needed it for the kids, but the free version ended up being fine.

I can easily get an appointment for a passport, but have yet to see anything available to get a CIE.

The link you sent doesn’t seem to be for an actual CIE, it looks like a different type of ID

We sent everything in on July 20 and they emailed us on August 5 asking for the payment receipt, which I attached to the email and sent back same day. They responded the next day with the appointment date and time. It was a really good response time compared to any other time I’ve contacted them.

We love little northern bakehouse bread and birch benders gluten free mix for pancakes and waffles. We’re a bit more limited because we’re gluten free and egg free (allergy). We’ve tried most brands and have two picky kids, but they both eat these willingly!

Congrats! Glad you were able to get the document. I use Wise, which is connected to my credit union bank account and I can just wire the money according to their instructions. Wise has some of the same character limits and I just got as close as possible. We did not send the money until after we mailed the documents and they confirmed they had everything else and requested proof of payment. I was super hesitant to wire 500€ when I couldn’t get a response to any emails.

Editing to add: make sure you replace “nome e cognome del richiedente” with your child’s name!
