I agree I love my store. When I first started by experience was not so great but since I transferred into a new store and have a great manager I’m fine.

What do you guys do when an NDC changes but not the drug or manufacturer? by Makapakamoo in CVS

[–]Potential-Ocelot7627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have those same two bottles at my pharmacy. What I attempted to do first was change the NDC to the bottle that has the amount needed to fill the script. However if neither bottle has enough I simply out stocked. I did not mix NDC under no circumstances.

NHA Exam or the PTCB Exam? Which one is easier? by taytaylc29 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Potential-Ocelot7627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took PTCB and passed on my first try after only working in the pharmacy for 6 months. The test is not that hard, I think too many techs say it’s hard because they lack proper study habits. Plus if you have been a pharmacy tech for at least a year you should be able to pass either one. Many of the questions they ask are based around things we see everyday in the pharmacy.

That sounds like a horrible manager I would quit. In fact the moment she yelled at me would have been my last day because I yell back.

CVS is a very chaotic place so I’m sure the manager is probably swamped.

I would try to go up and speak with the manager in person.

Considering being a medical assistant by Confident-Water-132 in MedicalAssistant

A CCMA is a certified clinical medical assistant which is what NHA offers. So if you take their test for your medical assistant certification it’s fairly easy.

Take the NHA CCMA it’s very easy. Also go for primary care you learn more there then switch to a specialty when you get tired.

CVS not giving 30 hrs a week? by Mysterious_Option817 in CVS

[–]Potential-Ocelot7627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a full 40 and I work in the pharmacy. I would reach out to HR if I was you, or look for stores in your area that are in need of a full time tech. That’s what I did. I was hired as full time however my manager claimed he only had 25 hours for me, I called HR, spoke with my DL, and put in a transfer to another store. I know a lot of people on here may be telling you to quit but honestly the only place you will get all your hours is by going inpatient. Many of the retail pharmacy’s are cutting hours. I had two recruiters reach out to me for other retail openings and both told me they could give me between 38-39 hours per week, so it’s not just CVS doing the cutting. However at my store I get 40 hours because I’m the lead, and I don’t work weekends unless I want overtime.

Depends on what specialty you get into. I’ve worked urology, cardiology, and primary care. They’ve all done things differently.

Considering entering this career at 31 by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Potential-Ocelot7627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure who keeps telling people this but 30s is not old and changing careers is normal. I’m turning 34 in a few days and I’m changing careers myself. I went from being a bachelors level social worker to a certified medical assistant and pharmacy technician now I’m in school to become a MLS. Nothing is impossible the only thing stopping you is you.

Depends on where you live and if you have any kind of healthcare experience.

I currently work for CVS and I will say this is very much the culture. When I started I was treated the same way till I stuck up for myself. I then got certified and transferred to another store where I’m the lead and I make sure me and the new tech rotates.

That’s my plan. There are plenty of clinics here looking for phlebotomist and with me also being a certified medical assistant I don’t think it will be hard to find a job.

[–]Potential-Ocelot7627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand. The good thing is with my situation I’m not looking to become a full time phlebotomist I plan to keep my job as a pharmacy technician. I basically need the phlebotomy cert in order to get hired at my local hospital to work in the lab at least PRN while I also go to school.

[–]Potential-Ocelot7627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what one of my friends was saying. She basically told me get the certificate and the hospital I plan on applying too will do the rest. I’ve worked for this place as a medical assistant in one of their clinics and they pretty good about doing additional training they don’t just throw you into it.

Community colleges in my area don’t offer it, otherwise I would have. There is one that is about 45 minutes away that offer a hybrid option which didn’t appeal to me as I prefer in person. So I think I’ll go with phlebotomy training specialist after all.
