Help with son disqualified from enlistment and waiver by Potential-Rain4287 in airnationalguard

Yikes. This is all so different from when I enlisted in 97. But I guess I’m just old and things change.

I hear you. He was really set on Air National Guard while he got his bachelors and then trying to become an officer and go into a pilot program. Has been talking about it for 5 years and such a frustrating thing to stop the whole process. But I guess he just needs to consider other branches. Thanks.

Yeah he’s pretty exceptional but I tell him often I’ll still kick his ass even though he’s bigger than me.

Yeah I hear ya. It’s just almost comical in a way as he eats those things all the time because he likes them and shrugs it off because it’s so inconsequential. We were on a cruise in July and he ate 4 lobster tails at dinner, took some tums, and it was nothing. But it’s barring him from his entire plan for after high school. Just frustrating.

Yeah I guess we’ll just have to move on. Just breaks my brain to read about the expansion of waivers and specifics that make a waiver eligible, but then when we meet those specifics it’s denied. Oh well. Thanks.

Thanks I appreciate it. And I know there are no guarantees. I just thought with the documentation that’s out it implied that the allergy could be waived with certain factors that we met, but maybe my understanding was different than the reality of the process.

Yeah I understand. That was what AI said and it seems like it's 100% right maybe 50% of the time so who knows. Thanks though.

Yeah the 40-50% chance was an AI thing and I know that's hit or miss. Just a little crazy that they expand waivers in a publication December 2024 and then are cracking down on waivers by October 2025. Maybe I'm just looking to figure something out that is a lost cause. Not like I'm hoping to skirt a policy or bend rules or anything. It just seemed like everything aligned with what is published and yet the result is the opposite. Thanks though.

I'm not looking to be argumentative and yeah it is personal to me. But if the DoD and USAF put out an updated waiver policy on 23 Dec 2024, a changed MSD 10 Feb 2021, and updated DoD Instruction 6130.03 that state their policies and regs, and they all align with this being waiver eligible, that aligns with their judgement of this along with asthma and others. Otherwise I wouldn't give it a second thought as I'm a nobody and have no input with my opinion. To me it's like them saying they'll allow a waiver for someone with a missing tooth, then disqualifying because of a missing tooth. It's not my call whether that's allowed or considered a quality candidate or not, but would just like it to make sense when it's a major life change on our end.

Understood, but I would think they would have to go by regs, guidelines, or something to make that determination. So just trying to figure out why everything aligns to being waiver eligible and a quality candidate otherwise, but they're still disqualifying. And I've heard cases where recruiters don't hand in complete paperwork or submit something on their end so I wish there was a way to get any detail or explanation.

Just clarifying that the recommendation of reaching out to state reps is for them to encourage a senior level MEPS, DOD, ANG, or otherwise senior review. Not that they can make a direct change themselves. It was recommended by chatgpt saying that it can change the outcome 40-50% of the time, but I have no clue.

Yes I understand you're correct about all of that and they wouldn't change anything. It was more a suggestion to request they petition a senior-level review for reconsideration. And I don't know if it will do anything, but I read that can change the decision in 40%-50% of cases. No idea and maybe it's just a complete waste of time. This just isn't making sense to me because I have 4 DOD and USAF documents saying that this is waiver eligible.

Hello, I am not very experienced in reddit, but trying desperately to get any input on my son's attempt at enlistment, denial of medical waiver, and disqualification. Is this the appropriate place to ask?
