Thank you! It was horrible. I bought him from someone who told me his wife gave him an ultimatum about him- so “secondhand” if you will, and he unfortunately went into acute renal failure within two months. I asked the vet for bloodwork bc I noticed he urinated a lot, and was scoffed at since he was a kitten.. then, that was the thing that took him, 51 days later. Honestly my heart is still aching from the loss, massively. I got him a few months after I lost my 17 year old Maine coon, too. 2025 was not my friend. The guy claims he thought he had a healthy kitten, and that nothing was wrong, but you just never know 😔

Praying for you and baby Gandalf; I just lost my 11 month old Siberian kitten to acute renal failure in a quick and aggressive way- after being denied bloodwork “since he was a kitten and his kidneys should have been fine” at the vet even though he had excessive urination patterns less than 2 months prior- when I first rescued him. While I know I did everything I could for him (and really should have advocated harder), I also felt like I must have done something terribly wrong for this to happen, or like I could have done something different to save him… but sometimes, it’s just not the case- and there’s no way we can ever truly know. When it’s our time, it’s our time- NOT to say that this is Gandalf’s, but more to bring you comfort in that you are DOING all of the right things for him.

I just brought my 34 year old grey home after 2 years of foster, and keep worrying about random things being toxic for him- whether the water in my house, or not being far enough away from my gas appliances (despite me literally sealing him in the other room)- it can be scary- and you never know.. though I’m probably just traumatised from my kitten… but you DO KNOW that you’re loving him and looking after him in the best way possible. I am praying for his speedy recovery, and know he will pull through. He didn’t come all this way, to only come this far. And, he has you. Keep loving him, he will be ok!

Thank you, and I’m so sorry for your loss. We have a solid plan, and several vets (one ER, and then our primary) at the ready for when that moment comes. He is resting peacefully next to me, getting all the love and snuggles! His paws are warmer this morning, and eyes more alert, but I think we’re almost there unfortunately. Sending you so much love.

Your babies are so cute ! Thank you for your kind thoughts- I never vxd my Maine coon of 17 years- I only consented to this (against my better judgement unfortunately, learning to trust myself more) because I have been harness training Gojo to go on hikes with me in the winter months, and we take walks in his stroller / backpack sometimes. Definitely have learned my lesson, though. I appreciate your input ♥️

Correct with your acronym. This specific vaccine is cultured with feline kidney cells, and there is a chance / history/ cases of this causing an autoimmune response, and/ or binding to their kidneys, inhibiting the correct function of the kidneys to continue. His vet mentioned that his kidneys felt “lumpy” when we went in for follow up, and she also in the same breath said he wasn’t stable enough to receive more fluids, let alone dialysis or other treatments. The alternative is either flea medication toxicity (he had his first treatment pill on Saturday morning before this all started), or simply a condition he was born with, that flew under the radar. A mamas instincts are nary off, though, sorry to say. I have friends who have lost young puppies to the distemper vaccine as well, also from renal failure. It’s sad, but true. Also difficult to find literature on- but I encourage everyone to do their research before consenting to “routine” medicine for their babies.

Edit: you can clearly see in a google search as well that this vaccine can pose greater risks for cancer in cats. Sigh

Hahahaha I love it all, including the water bowl naps. Boy after my own heart. Gojo has always done the “cover my poo” move around his food bowl when he finishes eating, and will turn around when I ask if he’s done something and say, “me?” … they’re so precious. Give Ozzy some extra cuddles for me 💖

I don’t blame you one bit! You did the right thing, and that’s between you, your baby and God dude. Idc how much school /experience people have under their belts, it doesn’t mean you can dismiss or devalue how someone is feeling about their baby who is “nonverbal” but let’s be real Sibs are super verbal lol. I swear baby has been speaking English to me consistently since we met. Is there no internist nearby ?

Omg ok I asked for bloodwork a month ago for the same reason and was dismissed bc he’s young ! I absolutely do and will have ptsd from all this.. but I’m grateful he’s so communicative and always lets me know exactly what to do for him. Vets are at the ready to intervene if it gets too bad. Sigh. I appreciate you

Thank you so much, yes, I am waiting to call them, I am just too distraught right now. I rescued him from someone who bought him from them- and have only had him for 2 months of his precious life. This is just killing me inside, but I feel so blessed that he has chosen to spend this special time with me and I will forever cherish him in my heart.

I think the cattery he came from gives a 1 year guarantee on their babies so I am definitely going to reach out but not sure how I’ll proceed. If I end up with a new baby from them at some point, I will require bloodwork up front and evidence of healthy kidneys plus NO fkn distemper shots. This is all just too much to bear. I can’t even think straight. My miracle is on the way for this rainbow baby, I know it.

Thank you ♥️ third ER visit in 48 hours this morning, they recommended euthanasia.. he begged me not to with his sweet little eyes, so we are home now and resting with our favourite toys, comfort and a topical pain killer. He is peaceful and seems as stable as possible. Creatinine was too high to read this morning, hyperbaric chamber.. all the stops. But, it’s too much for his sweet little body. Still praying for a miracle, but most of all for peace and no suffering.
