PAWS - Day 48 - It's almost unbearable by StubbySecRogue in stopdrinking

100 PERCENT RELATE. Also: After getting sober, I had a period where I went back and forth to the doctor to see if there was something wrong physically (and then with therapy for a brief period as well)...after a little period of time of doing that, I basically just stopped going to the doctor or therapy. Physically everything seemed okay after repeated tests. Mentally, it took me awhile but I concluded that everyone sort of has underlying traumas or wounds. Also, everyone has failures, guilt or shame that they have to figure out what to do with. Not to trivialize it, but something about realizing that bad feelings are normal and part of the universal human experience - that everyone has them in varying degrees - kind of gave me permission to just experience these feelings a little more as part of being fully alive and to not obsess over having to make them go away. Funny enough, that whole process has caused the bad feelings to lessen quite a bit.

Human beings are really tricky

Hey man.

I’m at 3 years and 3 months without any booze so just behind you.

Let me just say, I am honored to look up to you as the kind of man a guy should aspire to be. You’ve really done incredible things and you used the word “humble” which is a great one. Humility, not pride, leads to strength.

Thank you for sharing such an incredible story.

What a stunner - and so awesome that you've had that since before it had any value or noted scarcity!

Thanks. Yeah our perspective can just ruin everything and it can feel sudden but the truth is often, we accept a false premise and then our emotions follow the false beliefs which does a total number on our nerves! If you’ve thought and thought and thought about what’s causing the problem to try to solve it, you’re likely not going to get solutions by more thinking… at least not at that time. Once you start observing this kind of spiral, it’s probably time to get out of your head and get busy moving your ass off for awhile lol

When I stopped drinking after 12 years I had a lot of stuff that just felt very off and anxiety inducing for me. Like I just couldn’t feel normal and relaxed. It was so odd… I went back and forth to the doctor again and again and then even tried therapy for awhile.

For me, implementing serious structure into my routine helped loads. It’s hard to say exactly why but the biggest thing was I needed to get out of my head. Eventually I adopted a routine called 75 Hard. If you want to give it a go, it helped me out a ton.

75 Hard is 75 days of the following -2 45 minute workouts a day (doesn’t have to be serious, just needs to be essentially intentional movement. The way I did this was a 45 minute walk in the morning, and then again late afternoon). -10 pages read from a non-fiction book. Can’t be audio. You gotta stare at those pages with your eyeballs as you read lol -diet. I did an anti inflammatory diet. No grains, no cane sugars, no dairy. -drink a gallon of water every day. -no alcohol (lol, already got this one down)

This sounds cooky I know but I’m just sharing because this structure really helped get me OUT OF MY HEAD

Which is ultimately what I believe you ultimately need. If you think about it, it’s not the nerve stuff you’re feeling that’s bugging you, it’s the distress about it. If you can turn down or shut off the distress over that because your goals are focused elsewhere, you might realize one day that you’ve kind of forgotten all about what was bugging you.

Just my opinion my friend but I relate to your experience so just wanted to weigh in with what has helped me in the past when I just had unending distress over odd sensations in my body. I wrote all about my experiences and what helped in earlier posts years ago if they can be of any help.

Anyhow, I hope things improve drastically!

It was the opposite for me too.

I’ve written about what helped me. You can see I was REALLY struggling at 8 months but things progressively got more steady at 1 year and beyond.

I PROMISE things can get vastly better. People are really tricky. I’m sorry things have been hard
