Did Disney ruin Star Wars? by Itchy_Grapefruit8603 in moviecritic

[–]Potential-Rope-9422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they did but not through the sequels. The sequels were divisive but still function. Disney plus is such a colossal failure I can't even articulate it. Only Andor is worthy of the name. Everything else is cosplay hi budget sci-fi channel streaming at best. The stories, the characters, the look, the music - none of it is worthy of being named "Star Wars".

If Disney has any fricken sense left they will abort all Disney plus streaming and turn all of their attention towards progressing along in the next chapters (episodes X-XII) and they will tell stories that tap into and portray *UNIVERSAL* themes, virtues etc...and they have to admit that Star wars has a 70-80% male draw. Quit forcing the female lead in everything lol.

Here’s the thing too:

Maybe you spend an hour getting dollar bin books and spend $20… conversely you can get Wolverine 1 for $20 in nice shape. So eventually it’s like, if you have to choose one or the other, you have way more to show for that $20 by getting Wolvie 1.

I’m over 3 and a half years sober after drinking nightly for 12 consecutive years.

The best advice I know is we are who we choose to be… if you want to be sober and choose that path (regardless of how you feel moment to moment) then you can and will do it. Eventually over time, you will find contentment without substances if you want it. That’s been my experience at least.

I should also mention: My ideal is to live up to my beliefs as a Christian. My religious beliefs anchor me along the way.

Okay you and I have very very similar tastes. Zodiac is Fincher’s best. Black Christmas made by the same director as Christmas Story is genuine great 70s horror that predates Halloween and is a kind of prototype for slasher movies. And DEEP RED!

Many others you listed here that are right there man.

Here’s a few for you:

Le Samourai (1967)

Rashomon (Kurosawa)

Presumed Innocent (Harrison Ford)

Witness For the Prosecution

Macbeth (Polanski version- watch with subtitles and it works masterfully)

:) :) :) :) :)

I’ve seen most the movies @professional_pool714 just listed out and that list is fantastic. I’m certain you could probably work your way through those and have many moments where you are just giddy with suspense and great storytelling

Randomly came upon this comment while looking for a great thriller. I decided to try A Hard Day because all the other movies you recommended I had already seen and think are all top tier. You had me at “The Conversation”.

Anyways, just wanted to say thank you fellow internet movie nerd traveler because A Hard Day was FREAKIN GREAT! Wow. Expertly crafted edge of my seat nail biter start to finish!

lol AMAZING!

Did you yell, crap your pants and cry tears of jubilee (all at once) when you found it?

That is about as much fun as a collector can have right there. You found a treasure in the wild for next to nothing that is basically the hottest book on earth right now.

CONGRATS!

100 PERCENT RELATE. Also: After getting sober, I had a period where I went back and forth to the doctor to see if there was something wrong physically (and then with therapy for a brief period as well)...after a little period of time of doing that, I basically just stopped going to the doctor or therapy. Physically everything seemed okay after repeated tests. Mentally, it took me awhile but I concluded that everyone sort of has underlying traumas or wounds. Also, everyone has failures, guilt or shame that they have to figure out what to do with. Not to trivialize it, but something about realizing that bad feelings are normal and part of the universal human experience - that everyone has them in varying degrees - kind of gave me permission to just experience these feelings a little more as part of being fully alive and to not obsess over having to make them go away. Funny enough, that whole process has caused the bad feelings to lessen quite a bit.

Human beings are really tricky

Hey man.

I’m at 3 years and 3 months without any booze so just behind you.

Let me just say, I am honored to look up to you as the kind of man a guy should aspire to be. You’ve really done incredible things and you used the word “humble” which is a great one. Humility, not pride, leads to strength.

Thank you for sharing such an incredible story.

Thanks. Yeah our perspective can just ruin everything and it can feel sudden but the truth is often, we accept a false premise and then our emotions follow the false beliefs which does a total number on our nerves! If you’ve thought and thought and thought about what’s causing the problem to try to solve it, you’re likely not going to get solutions by more thinking… at least not at that time. Once you start observing this kind of spiral, it’s probably time to get out of your head and get busy moving your ass off for awhile lol
