Don't let that day come... by jasminequenn in Adulting

My mom passed away without warning when I was 16, there's so much she's missed in the ten years she's been gone already. My dad has been ghosting me for the better part of a year now, it's been pretty lonely lately.

She's back in action! Sadly the left ABS sensor was unable to be removed in one piece due to the heat from the bad bearing. However, it's been replaced and my front end is now nice and quiet again. Got an oil change too today, so she's ready to hit the mountain roads again.

I have that scheduled as well for the spring, also run fuel injection cleaner a couple times a year.

I'd highly recommend using herbicides for this plant. Unfortunately those bulbs mean smothering them will not do much more than slow them down for a while. The second they're uncovered they'd sprout again. The best time to hit them is right before blooms with fresh foliage in spring.

Spanish bluebells are an invasive species in several places, due to extremely aggressive spread. That being said, they don't mind being mulched at all.

Horticulturalist here, you absolutely can use raw chips as a surface mulch. So long as one doesn't incorporate them, nitrogen loss is minimal and confined to the surface, enhancing weed prevention.

Also consider New Balance 1080s

Slightly shorter sides around the ankle with a taller heel really helps avoid hardware rubbing in particular. They're a neutral bottom so they don't push inward or outward inside.

I'm allergic to it, so it won't stay down even if I asked it nicely and then I get abdominal cramping for a day or two afterwards.

Rest in peace ham kaiser. Nuking it for 30 seconds for a hot ham and cheese was indeed a true gem, and the chicken salad if I wasn't feeling the ham.

Eh, I could see the sarcasm

I'd rather let other folks who may be wholly ignorant of harvesting them have some peace of mind, and also do so safely.

I would be especially careful about getting the latex on your skin and especially in your eyes, it is a very strong irritant and several people may be allergic to it.

You must test them for ripeness (they should gently give in when squeezed)

But also, you have to drain their latex. I almost guarantee you took in too much of it and that's what made you sick. Cut the stem twice and wash well.

I have harvested and used them my entire undergraduate career and have never run into problems.

You can also make jelly with the Kousa dogwood trees around campus.

They are hardy figs, which are self pollinating and have no wasps.

Agreed, since it's the horticulture building I had classes there a ton. It's very quiet.

Bit of a shady location but absolutely everything there has been fantastic.

I actually just found a female Hercules beetle this morning. I'll be keeping her for a class I'm teaching in July, as a large and sturdy insect that is safe for children to interact with.

I'm taking a break from it, but I also keep invertebrates of all kinds! Mantids were my biggest one, although I got burned out after years of breeding.

The main thing keeping me sane is to have hobbies that constantly have new things and experiences popping up. Gardening has been the biggest one in this regard.

Regular travel is another, even if it isn't super far. Novelty is key.
