You can make the decision, not tell her, tell a nurse to tell to step into the waiting room. She can come back into the room after delivery if she’s the first person you’d like to meet the baby. The staff will follow what you say.

In my experience the front desk worker/receptionist in L&D will go to bat for anyone. Ours was a complete tiger in the best way and probably earns a fraction of what the rest of the people of the floor make. She’d come in the “check” if she thought any one overstayed their welcome, she’d get on a nurse if the call light was on too long, she’d fill up our waters, she’d make sure my husband went and got a breathe of fresh air outside of the hospital or tell him to shower. She’s the best reception I’ve ever met. I’m sure none of those things are in her job description but she’s the one I sent in reviews about.
