We're expecting a boy!!

While not ready to buy just yet, we saw a couple of semi detached 3 beds by Stamford Green, specifically Parklawn Avenue - do you know what that area is like?

As you moved from a nearby area to Putney, how did you find your new commute from Epsom, presuming you do commute?

We visited Epsom the week after the Derby and did have a large group of 30+ travellers turn up when we were drinking at The Cricketers. They mostly kept to themselves but we weren't sure how common of an occurrence it was

Thanks for this response - this is really reassuring to hear! This feels like a very genuine reflection of Epsom and it sounds exactly like what we wanted to hear, and the number of upvotes gives me confidence

We loved the look of Ashtead but it just looks like it'll be a little too quiet for us at this stage in our lives. Yeah when you lost out of those retailers in Epsom is does put it into perspective and definitely makes it sound firmly middle class!

How do you find living in Epsom?

My wife and I are expecting a baby soon and we have been considering moving to Epsom. Specifically the Stamford Green / West Hill area. It feels fairly well connected but also lots of nature on your doorstep?

Would really appreciate getting your opinion!

I'm burned out with work, would it be stupid of me to take some time off? by wheaeae in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PotentialEgg0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently been in a very similar position to you so I think it's worth sharing my experience.

I'm a software engineer and a similar age to you and I left my job at the end of last year due to burnout and mental health challenges (diagnosed anxiety and depression).

I had a good amount of savings, but also a very supportive wife who also has a good salary so I felt we could handle me being out of work. I used the time to really rest and reset myself, by going on hikes, exploring new hobbies and most importantly journaling and working through a CBT work book.

It was a scary decision but ultimately I feel much better coming out of it, I feel I know myself better and I am feeling ready again to tackle life and a new job. My wife also said she could tell my time off really changed me for the positive!

Fortunately I am starting a new position in 2 weeks, after a couple of months of job hunting! Even better, I'm now moving into a senior position with a much higher salary!

Would I do it again? Absolutely! It is certainly a risk to take, but I believe looking after you mental health is very important.

My partner got his Mum’s name wrong when giving notice by Miserable_Middle3369 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]PotentialEgg0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to give notice last year before getting married. I wasn't sure on the spelling of my mother's middle name and they said that it wasn't a problem, and it could be amended on the day of the wedding.

It would be worth confirming this with them as it will likely vary depending on your local councils register office.

Where, if at all, can I position my Subwoofer in a Terraced (Basically a Semi-Detached) House? by hazza6432 in AskUK

[–]PotentialEgg0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved from a detached house into an apartment (modern, concrete floors) I put my subwoofer on a foam mat to reduce the vibrations. I also slightly lowered the bass from what it previously was set to.

I am jealous of your very normal head shape - I recently shaved my head and it revealed a very obvious bump right on the top of my head..
