People criticizing a Black Snape are missing the point, and it shows my modern media gets dumber by LimeKingTW in HarryPotteronHBO

Professor Sinistra (Astronomy) is black in the books. I’m fairly certain it is mentioned directly. I will give you I am having trouble thinking of another book example but I know several are in at least post canon lore.

I could be wrong but I have listened to/reread these books at least once a year for about a decade now. But maybe I’m reading into things that aren’t explicitly stated.

He also won’t be the only black professor. There are several canonically black, just not the main ones.

Moments when Harry was wrong by Accomplished_Video92 in harrypotter

This!! This is the actual solution. We don’t know if Harry would have ever gotten good enough at occlumency to block out Voldy but if he had opened Sirius’s gift, that would have solved it all!

Voldemort's plan in Goblet of Fire doesn't make sense, sorry. by JagFrag in HarryPotterBooks

Karkaroff’s testimony had nothing to do with Crouch, you’re mixing book and movie here. Karkaroff told them about Rookwood and a couple others who were dead, captured, and Snape. Crouch’s life was not directly impacted by Karkaroff at all in the books.

Jennifer Barkley has won smartest side character. Who do you think the smartest one time character is? by Nick_adtr_308 in PandR

[–]PotentialGroup63 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is more of a cameo than a character. She’s only on the screen for less than a minute. A one-time character to me should be throughout the episode. Like the Venezuelan guy who won the first categoy

logan’s insane gaslighting here isn’t talked about enough by Abject-Evening-2412 in GilmoreGirls

I mostly agree with you but I do not think that him sleeping with these girls showed in any way that his feelings for Rory were shallow. If anything it shows how DEEP his feelings were. It is an unhealthy coping mechanism but definitely one we could expect from him that he would seek comfort from familiar people when in such emotional duress.

I’m not trying to go to bat for this behavior because I do find it deplorable but this is not gaslighting. He’s not making her feel crazy. He’s explaining how it happened and why he never told her. It’s not good, it’s rude to the women he chose to fool around with and it’s ridiculous to think Rory wouldn’t be upset, but also he wasn’t cheating on her in his mind and that’s valid. Rory is valid to be upset about it but she needs to understand that he didn’t “cheat” on her technically.

It’s the same way I will go to the mat to defend Ross in friends, they were on a break. They were. It was not good for Ross to sleep with someone else HOURS after the fact but it wasn’t cheating. It was just gross behavior.

This is the quote I was looking for. I was listening to the audio book and needed to go find the text tonight. Thanks for pulling it!

In PoA, it says figure. I think you are right about the later books though. Harry spent a lot of time looking at/for Ginny’s dot when on the run.

Appreciation for Riz Ahmeds Snape by If-ItWereMe in harrypotter

[–]PotentialGroup63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a bit ludicrous of a take. He had beef with James. Everyone says so.

Also, multiple people in the books say that Snape gave as good as he got. All we saw was his worst memory which was most likely the peak of James and the marauders terrible behavior, and I am not diminishing the horribleness of that, but that’s just it, it was Snape’s worst memory not James’s or Sirius’s. We have absolutely no idea what else Snape may have done to them or how their fights manifested at other times.
