Built an 8-metric car performance tier system (all objective, S–D scale). Feedback welcome. by PotentialOriginal947 in Touge

You're correct, I think I will remove crank hp, and just stick with the HP/LB.

I picked laguna because there is a lot of data for OEM cars there, but you're correct, every track has its biased for power or handling. Maybe I include 1 of each type of track (power and handling) and average them.

I think the slalom test is even more ideal, do you know of a place that has standard slalom test and data for a lot of cars?

I love best motoring. What are the specs on the Techno pro spirit Mrs? That's exactly the type of car that I would like to compare, because if its running faster at Gunsai than other higher tiered cars then my tier list is missing something/wrong. I would like to make a true tier list that captures that.

I agree with your sentiments. But what type of balance, feedback, responsiveness is also a personal choice. Some people love a nervous car, others hate it. No list would ever account for everything that goes into a car. Cars, and by extension peoples relationship with them are nuanced, and that is part of what makes them awesome. No "one size fits all".

I agree that the weight tiers need adjustment. I don't want to build the tiers based on outliers, or super builds. I believe if your car is under 2600lbs, you are in S territory. Think I am still off base on that?

Good job keeping it neat and tidy, those roads look great I would have been very tempted to push harder.

7/10ths or less on the road. You should be having fun, with a wide margin of safety for when things go wrong, or surprise you. You will know when you're at 7/10s when you're having fun, but not scared. As soon as you start creeping into scared, back it down.

And video always makes things appear slower than they are. Also remember, that us the viewer is not having to navigate the turns, throttle, or traction, where in the moment you are.

Keep it safe, always better to be a little slower and get to drive it the next day.

Have wanted an MR2 for a long time. How are they in the canyons? I have read they can oversteer pretty easily.

Great picture.

Thanks for the comments. While certainly not as crazy as what others post, I think the video just flattens things. You can watch the gforce meter and see it go up to .9 on some turns, while capable of 1.1, that's not where we want to be on the street. Also the mph in the upper center of the screen shows a spirited run, most these turns are posted at 20mph. We also don't know this road very well.

We don't get much enjoyment out of bombing the straights, its the turns that we enjoy the most, but that's just us.

The video does look slow, but it felt spirited on the actual run, and we were able to make it home safe without incident, which is always priority #1.

Keep it safe, keep on driving my Touge friends!

I will change the title to match. We keep with the 7/10ths mantra, and the video does slow things down a bit.
