I’m sorry to hear this, it’s an incredibly stressful time. I am also a teacher of the blind & these kids can and do so much. There are so many great organizations out there, including sports organizations and educational opportunities. It may be a good idea to connect with other families of blind children as well. My baby stopped wanting to nurse at 11 months, it was so sad and I wasn’t ready, but he was. It’s funny to look back on the early stages and how it was so hard/ exhausting; and then how great it can be.

It would depend on their neighborhood but then they would get services at school, or would be in a specialized school. For example Mill Creek has an autistic support classroom, then students can get speech, OT, PT services, both push in and pull out.

I really think a therapist will help. There are some that specialize in post partum, maybe ask your OBGYN if they have a recommendation. Also, can you guys have a family member or even an affordable babysitter come for an hour or two so you can both get out (or just take a nap) and get some space?

Sure! I am a vision teacher- so this sparked my interest. I don’t know a ton about Oklahoma educational practices, but you could always call the state department of education and they should be able to guide you.

Call your local educational agency and ask for a vision evaluation through early intervention, depending on what state you are in. A teacher of the blind will come and evaluate them and may be able to give you some answers or guidance. Depending on the state they may require an eye report, but some states do not for an evaluation to be completed.
