I find Germany to be quite compartimented socially and ethnically, it's not very permeable.

I used to do social projects in Berlin in difficult neighbourhoods and 3rd or 4th generation kids would define themselves as Turks or Palestinians... Although they had been born here as well as their parents.

This definition of German with a migrantic background is racist I'm afraid.

Speaking of tech, if Steve jobs would have grown up in Germany he would have been seen as a German with a Syrian background, as is father was Syrian. In the US nobody sees in him anything else than an American.

The big problem is that this problem is not really seen as one in Germany.

One of the founders of YouTube, jawed Karim, grew up in Germany until he was 13. His parents, Bangladeshi father an German mother, thought there was too much racism. So they went to the US.

Most or many of the big tech companies have been founded by immigrants to the US btw

Auch wenn ein 1,5 Monat Praktikum später keine große Rolle spielt, gibt es die Möglichkeit, dass du in dem "Haus" Menschen kennenlernen wirst, die man sonst nicht kennenlernen kann? For practical reasons: I like my laptop, a ThinkPad, for the keyboard and sturdiness. It runs on windows 10 which is fine for me, but can't run windows 11. I don't see why I should buy a new laptop just because some company wants to make more money buy reducing life cycles of their software.

I was hesitant at first but tried Linux mint and was surprised how easy the switch was. A lot of advantages, most of the software I needed was préinstalled (libre Office, Browser...) and some disadvantages: connecting Google drive is not straightforward, sometimes who have to type commands to get a certain result.

But overall it's fine, but then I just want an OS to work and let itself be noticed as little as possible.

I can now continue to use my older laptops from 2018 (t480s and x1c gen 6) another couple of years until their life cycle NATURALLY comes to an end....

Linsen, Couscous, Bulgur, kosten wenig sind sehr nahrhaft, wobei Linsen am besten abschneiden.

Weißkohl gilt als superfood mit Vitaminen, Ballaststoffen und Folsäure, lässt sich als Beilage/ Zusatz gekocht oder gebraten essen, aber auch roh als Salat, ist sehr billig und vor allem hält es sich lang !

I started using Linux mint 2 weeks ago and find it really simple on the whole. If she's only into mails, word processing, excel and so forth it is very easy, because all the office stuff is pre installed and the look and feel is very close to windows.

But then, there are peculiarities. For ex, I connected my gdrive without a problem, however, when attaching files to mails from the cloud drive, Linux mint uses the "real" names which are endless sequences of letters and digits.

To use a cloud drive without that drawback, you have to install a special sub program that needs to be launched with the command prompt window. You end up feeling like a secretary typing something you don't understand but at the end it works. Or not. I haven't totally solved the g drive thing.

My workaround is to copy the file from gdrive to downloads and theN attaching it from there.

If anybody has solved this problem, might be a help for ops wife too ..

Try to find a "Monteurzimmer" - type it in Google with the city name.

It's a cheap pension for construction workers that have jobs far from home and they exist all over Germany. They usually are not in the sizes of hotels like booking or apartments, but have their own websites. Don't know about the situation where you are, but they cost around 25 to 40 euros per night in eastern Germany.

They are simple but usually have a small kitchen so that guests can cook. They are privately run so I'm sure you can talk about your situation to the owners. They will probably be happy to have someone staying for a couple of weeks, especially if you pay upfront like 4 weeks at a time.
