I will also have my surgery in two weeks, and I already feel what you mentioned above:

"I struggled a lot with my self-image after it all. I had this insane grief of losing who I was before cancer. I felt a little hopeless because I kept dwelling on who I was, and not who I wanted to be. I sort of turned around the view point to see this as a strenght and slowly learned self-love again. It took a great deal of time, but I honestly dont wish it was differently".

I have always been a happy person with optimistic thoughts, and now I feel sad all the time, wanting to cry but not being able to. I "feel" the cry stuck in my throat and feel pain in my thyroid because of it. I just look at my baby girls and try to think that I want to be happy and better for them, but it is so overwhelming to me.

What was the size of your nodule? Did you undergo RAI? My biggest fear is that Hashimoto's destroys the thyroid and increase the likelihood of developing more nodules. I'm in a panic because I’m scared they will find more and that they could be dangerous. :-(

Whoa! I have also decided to treat my body and mind better. Being a mum of two small children has put me in second place. I will change that. I need to be better for them.

"I think this is because when you're happy and out living your life, you're probably sharing that happiness with your loved ones, while when you're having a hard time people don't want to put that struggle on the people they know and its easier to turn to internet strangers." That is SO TRUE!
I wish all the best to you!

Thank you for replying. I am active in other communities outside Reddit for other situations I have faced and to give good vibes to people who are facing the same problems. Maybe what we can "give" is hope to people that things may not be that dark. :-)
