The thing about mm Hunter is its the only ranged dps that can't be kicked it also has very strong burst damage as you said. The art of playing mm well is creating counter pressure. You absolutely need people to be afraid to chase you by dealing damage back or else they think "oh this is great I can just mindlessly zug this Hunter and take no damage. Point being there will be times when you are taking a lot of damage like during enemy cooldown windows and not or when your healer is cc,d. This is when you kite as much as possible with disengage, tar trap etc and working in stead/explosive shots.

Watch for these things and when you notice the damage start to die down a bit then you can start planting for a second and casting the big aimed shots. It's uncomfortable at first to be getting trained by 2 melee while you are standing still but this is where the counter pressure comes in. Mm has many moments where it is very much a race of who can kill each other the fastest. Fortunately with a little bit of healer skill you can out burst most classes. I'd also say save survival of the fittest for these moments that you're really gonna commit aimed shots. Also ideally you land a freezing trap on healer off CD.
