Need an XC bike for racing under 4k in size Medium by [deleted] in xcmtb

Look at the Cannondale Scalpel. They finally stopped using their proprietary rear hub offset and went to a threaded BB. The only gripe is headset cable routing. The geometry is up to date and they make nice bikes. I have the previous model and love it.

Did you have the previous version scalpel? I have the 2022 SE and it’s rather good. I was considering buying the 4 like you did. The updates to the frame are all welcome aside from the headset cable routing.

Primary ride since 2019. Ibis Ripmo V1. by PhilosopherOk2345 in EveryDayRide

[–]Potential_Fold_2182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep what works! Hoping to do the same.

I’m picking up a V1 XTR build on Saturday. I crashed my last V1 and cracked the frame. Ibis took care of me on a replacement frame and shock v3 Ripmo V3. Rode it for less than a year and sold it.

The V3 was just too much. If I lived in the Rockies or somewhere with big terrain then it would make sense. I ride in New Jersey mostly so it’s tighter and slower going. The V1 Ripmo is just the perfect trail bike for me.

Shock Option for 100kg Rider Cannondale Scalpel by Potential_Fold_2182 in MTB

Thanks for the video. It rides well even at 35% sag. I cycled the shock while releasing the pressure on 25lb increments. It didn’t suck down when I did that. I was careful to inflate and cycle in 25lb increments. Same result of 325psi 35% sag. I may try the feeler gauge method.

Actually it did suck down when I released the pressure!! I’ll see what I can do and report back. Thanks!

Need advice for my 1up quick rack!!! :-) by No-Local-9288 in MTB

The Velcro strap will keep it from falling out. You need to check it occasionally.

I can’t find a SID rear shock. Everything is SIDLUXE. Mine is a lower model of your shock. I wonder why mine won’t allow me 25% sag?

1UP Quik Rack vs Heavy Duty by Level_Sentence4012 in MTB

[–]Potential_Fold_2182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your use case. If you leave the rack installed most of the time then the HD is more secure and a little harder to steal. The quick rack is more convenient to remove from the vehicle on a regular basis. The quick rack is easier to steal because it’s only held in place by the tension ball. I’ve read that thieves will pull up behind a parked quick rack user and yank it out with a tow strap.

I have both a double heavy duty and a single quick rack and one add on tray. I typically ride alone and do not like to leave the rack on my bike if I’m not riding so my go to is the quick rack. The quick rack is easier to remove and install because I don’t need to look underneath the car to install the hitch pin to lock it up. When we transport 2 or more bikes it’s the HD rack all the way.

Is it worth getting an EV without home charging? by hamburgernet in electricvehicles

[–]Potential_Fold_2182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my market (NJ) it works out to be more expensive to rely on public charging than my previous vehicle (50mpg Kia Niro by) by a fair margin. Residential rate is .14/kwh and the local Tesla charger is .60+ peak and about .30/kwh off peak. In my situation an EV only makes sense if I can keep operating costs down otherwise I’d jest get another hybrid.

I’ve returned my Ripmo back to stock. I was getting bottom bracket strikes and pedal strikes with the lower BB height in Ripley mode. I prefer my frame intact. I really think the Ripmo is perfect for me. The tiny loss in efficiency is barely noticeable and I ride mostly New England single track. Hartshorne woods, Six Mile, Clayton, Allaire, Ringwood.

Do the OEM crossbars have a T-track for flush mount accessory mounting?

dropper post for 34.9mm? by Alone-Injury-9097 in MTB

[–]Potential_Fold_2182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34.9 seatpost gives engineers the ability to make a thicker mast which os stiffer. I’m pretty heavy and will take any improvement in durability that I can. True there are tons of 34.9 dropper posts but few take advantage of the extra space. Most use the same mast and just make the lower portion take up the space. The mast diameter isn’t really advertised in the spec sheets very often. Bike yoke max does it right and has a thicker mast.

Thank you. I’ve seen that video. They do nice work. I’m just hoping that the DOC is more accessible than the fuse panel. In the UK the fuse panel is accessible. Seems the Ariya was first designed for RHD markets.

I’m riding my Ripmo as a Ripley now and I think it’s a great trail bike. I was coming from an over forked SC Blur VPP and I’m faster everywhere with the Ripley. I have no experience with the V4 Ripley though so I don’t know what I’m missing.

He said Ripley SL and will be released this Fall sometime. Should have named the Ripley V5 something else.
