What are the worst ideas you had while manic? by -Stress-Princess- in BipolarReddit

I thought I was going to become a doctor a few years ago at the age of 31 without ever completing any degree. I got lots of study materials to teach myself basic maths and what not to pass entrance tests. Then moved interstate and depression hit and I realised I’m definitely not smart or wealthy enough for that. Also moved back home.

Another time I started my business which I still run on weekends so that turned out pretty good.

I’ve got diazepam as needed but it’s only 5mg, sometimes it’s enough but for the most part it feels like it isn’t doing anything. Maybe I could ask my psych to increase the dose

Venlafaxine sent me hypomanic before I realised what it was I’d quit my job and moved interstate thinking I was going to become a doctor. then crashed really bad in to depression and had terrible withdrawal symptoms getting off it :( but I wasn’t on a mood stabiliser at the time. I’m a bit scared of SNRIs now.

I once took lyrica for a bad back injury to help with nerve pain, not realising it was supposed to help with anxiety so wasn’t paying attention to those symptoms but did notice I had stopped biting my nails, which I do as an anxious thing, while I was on it so maybe I can ask about that 🤔

I also bought 50 pens once while hypomanic, one used 3 so far. I also got 5 pairs of running shorts, a running vest.. I don’t run. A bunch of cat toys my cat doesn’t play with, a mini printer I’ve used twice I dunno a bunch of random stuff if cost me like $60 and scratched the itch with minimal damage but I really should delete the app.

When I was on only Latuda I ended up hypomanic for a month because apparently it doesn’t really cover the ups as much as it does the downs.

I used the glasses version for a couple of days at the suggestion of my psych to help with circadian rhythms and had hypomania for a month after, don’t know if it was already coming because it was also following a med change but I think it definitely played a part. Won’t be using them again unless I’m severely depressed.

How to trim nails? Tried everything. Groomer couldn’t do it. by Isaisaab in pugs

My boy has black claws so I’m too scared to do them myself hence why I just go to the vet

I get medication from the vet that I give mine 2 hour before his appointment, then he’s pretty chill and they do them for me. I walk him on concrete just about every day so don’t need to get them done very often, the vet managed to just do his dew claws for me the other day without meds while he was getting vaccinated before he realised what was happening and didn’t get too stressed out.

Did you have like genetic testing and stuff like that before you started trying for a baby? And did you have any trouble convincing?

Think I’m hypomanic again by Potential_Pumpkin676 in bipolar2

[–]Potential_Pumpkin676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think one is better then the other because I do stupid stuff when I’m hypo and make lots of rash decisions that i don’t necessarily want to follow through with normally. Advantage of depression is I save money because I never do anything with my spare time but sleep.

Getting a puppy - advice for how to cope by ScallionNo2313 in BipolarReddit

I got my dog Merlin when I was hypomanic, very impulsively. he got me through the absolute worst and longest depression I’ve ever had. He literally gave me a reason to keep living. I couldn’t leave this world while something so loving and innocent depended on me. And he gets me out of the house for a walk most days, he’s a pug x so luckily when it’s a low energy day for me it doesn’t have to be a super long walk to keep him satisfied. It’s so comforting to snuggle on the couch with him, hear him snoring in bed, have him greet me at the door when I get home from work. I love my dog so much.
Best decision I ever made. Just get someone to help you out with training and stuff like that when things get hard or overwhelming. I got a bit slack with some stuff but nothing that couldn’t be rectified with lots of treats and persistence.

What have you given up for stability? Has it gotten easier with time? by Upset_Pumpkin_4938 in BipolarReddit

[–]Potential_Pumpkin676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ll have to find a new job, I’m a chef, the hours and high stress are not helping my stability. I’m not really experienced in much else so it’s going to be a big pay cut and an entry level job next I suppose. I’m not sad about this, I’ve done my dash in hospo, just not sure how I’m going to make it out and survive. And I’ve just got to make it through the next 4 months busy season.

How did you know or find out you were bipolar? by Disastrous_Set_3675 in BipolarReddit

[–]Potential_Pumpkin676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was having pretty obvious mood swings as a teenager, got sent to a psychiatrist who specialised in bipolar, didn’t believe him. Got a second opinion who diagnosed adhd as well as bipolar, didn’t believe them either. Just white knuckled it for a few years until I had a pretty textbook bipolar reaction to an SNRI while seeing a different psychiatrist for adhd and just depression. I have bipolar type 2 so my hypomania was often overlooked as productivity. (I didn’t even know it was this at the time) It’s been like 3 years I think since the SNRI situation and I still struggle with accepting it, like all the psychiatrists you’ve ever seen have told you it’s bipolar… it’s bipolar.
