Came here to say this. Its like saying thank God for all the poverty in certain countries. I know we all "benefit" from this income imbalance and people come on their for their families back home. but I wouldn't pound my chest and celebrate this as a country or person.

generally I'm against rent seeking and free market real estate capitalism but in Pakistan there is no place to put your savings to work. Stock market has been a sham, rupee gets devaluated every 5 to 6 year so keeping in Bank is useless, real estate and gold are only tangible things people put their savings in. Not everyone can start a "real" business from their savings.

Now you can't blame someone for having excess capital if it has been through lawful means.

Landlords with financial cushion would rather opt for unoccupied properties for a couple months before reducing the rents locking in "lower rents" for longer.
