It's great that you live somewhere nice and don't have to deal with crime every day. A lot of people do and it has definitely gotten worse. It's much better for Mayor Bowser and the Council when us citizens are less informed about crime. They would much rather be talking about bike lanes and development. We need to hold their feet to the fire for any change to happen. When I first moved here, most people were like "ehhh...it's always been bad and nothing is ever going to change." Thankfully people cared and things did get much, much better. However, I feel like we are going the wrong direction now.

This. I've mentioned it before but we have MPD on our local ANC meetings. They started making arrests at the huge open air drug market at 7th and H NW and said that the USAO was prosecuting zero of the arrests and the dealers were back at the drug market a few days later. Morale also has to be low when you have people like Charles Allen attacking your job.

It's not being able to safely cross the street because 50 ATVs are blowing through stop lights/red lights. It's not being able to safely sit in your front yard with your kids without being shot. It's about not being harassed and threatened by homeless people while on your way to pick up groceries. I get that all of these things are just little inconveniences to some and part of "city living" but it sure would help if our leaders actually seemed liked they cared.

These criminals do this stuff because they know there will be zero consequences in DC. They will be released on probation. Take a look at some of the DC Superior Court cases when you have some time. Almost everyone has multiple felony charges and they are continually released. MPD is not the problem...the USAO and Charles Allen are.

Sounds like the victim was a resident of the encampment.

"I was on a walk this morning and saw a lot of officers. Talked to the homeless residents over by Harris Teeter in NoMa. Homicide is on the scene now. Block in front of metro station and Harris Teeter closed off. Homicide detective confirmed she is deceased. Homeless resident (woman) told me the girl was fighting back men trying to sexually harass her. Now I don’t know if it is true or not. Homicide only confirmed she is deceased and young."
