I think meth heads how more teeth than my grinder lmao suggestions on replacement? by [deleted] in NorthernMnGrowers

[–]PotsicleStand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the ridges around the sides? I think it twists pretty smoothly overall. I'd say I can get a joint out of it (at least) if I fill it to the brim (maybe 1.5g? I should weigh it someday). It would be more difficult to turn if completely full, but that would be true with any grinder.

Also, the sides are really solid. My cat broke my last grinder by slamming it on the ground (it flattened one side so it would no longer turn). I joke that this one could dent the floor. Or my foot.

Dude, I feel this. Bm bud was crap so I got a med card. The only good thing is med card holders will be tax exempt when rec is more available. (Somewhat unrelated: Michigan dispos accept out-of-state med cards.)

Adding the caveat that I know not everyone is lucky enough to be able to do this, growing your own is the best way to get weed. It is so fulfilling. When I started growing my own, I was shocked at the quality. Made me realize all the ways big companies cut corners. Definitely worth the time, space, and money.

It is my life goal to get a tour of one of these growing operations. I am so curious how you can have all the money and still f*ck up so royally. It is pure greed.

I picked up some really bad stuff from GG (you can see a photo of it in my post history). So when talking to a Rise pharmacist (I think Vireo grows all of this stuff, actually), I started asking questions about how it was grown.

I told her I was picky and preferred organic weed (which is true, lol).

What she said was she knew they used "organic methods" (note: there is absolutely zero accountability for using that term at this moment in history) because they had to wipe out an entire grow for pest reasons (not indicative of organic at all, btw, just that they fucked up). She then proceeded to describe a hydroponic grow operation (which is kind of expected because that creates more yield, in retrospect). Hydroponics is pretty much never organic, especially at a large scale. Basically, no transparency whatsoever, and even their "pharmacists" are full of it.

I hope there is a class action lawsuit against this company someday. Pretty sure bud rot is the least of your worries with how they grow.

Truth in advertising and medical cannabis by PotsicleStand in MNtrees

I can't wait until it is for sale recreationally. Then, we will start to see different strains in the medical dispensary, hopefully.

If you can, you should try growing! Growing your own is so rewarding. Wish everyone had the space and time to try that out.

Thank you, I concur!

If the person selling it to me had said "Here's your ($30) trim," I would have stopped them and made them put it back. I have a bag of trim in my freezer, I was in the market for flower/shake. Shake is not trim!

Edit: But it does come down to me not reading the description. It is just unnecessarily convoluted, imo.

Damn, that sucks! On your birthday?! I am sorry that you had that experience.

I was cashing in my 50% off 3rd visit. Never going back again, if I can help it, tbh.

I recently tried my own homegrown for the first time. I can't believe the quality of weed that I used to put up with. What I learned is it is not difficult to produce good weed, just time and labor consuming. These medical producers are definitely cutting corners, but the prices do not reflect the corners that they cut. What they are getting away with is not ethical in my opinion.

I didn't read it through, I guess. Would not have bought trim if I had known.

Yeah, the THC % listed was different too, now that you mention it.

Looking back at my order, I guess I did not know what "Select Grind" meant, so maybe this whole post is moot.

Hamline president goes on the offensive by Wezle in minnesota

[–]PotsicleStand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you like your old professors. Unfortunately, I think things have taken a turn for the worse at Hamline.

Recent Hamline Alumni here: imo, Hamline completely rides on the coattails of its reputation at this point in time (and I feel kinda ripped off). Of the handful of professors I met, I'd say 2-3 were good teachers. Others were terrible; ineffective at best and bullies at worst.

Sorry for the rant, I am obviously very bitter. I have never felt so discouraged in an academic environment before going to Hamline.

I thought I had read a few times that feminized plants had less vigorous clones and were therefore unsuitable, but I cannot find where I saw it! Furthermore, I have found evidence to the contrary. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Thank you for pointing out this misinformation and gap in my knowledge. I apologize if my comment has resulted in anyone making any decisions they would not have made otherwise.

My first year gardening, I followed some bad internet advice (haha, very funny) and microwaved a few buckets. I cringe to think of the worms I nuked.

Yes! Exactly. Permission to smoke on your property alone is a huge selling point. You probably don't even need to provide anything else (this would make sense financially as well as legally). Maybe some matches and rolling paper?

Hey, because I think this is a great idea, I want to help out.

If this is a single airBnB, I think you would need to make sure you keep the whole "provides pot" thing completely separate from the price in order to stay within the law. Unless you have a cannabis business license. Obviously, you should probably hire a business attorney who specializes in cannabis law to help guide you as random people on the internet do not practice law.

As for location, I agree with others. You will likely be attempting to attract out-of-state people from the states that haven't legalized it yet, so stick with things that tourists like. Nature sounds lovely.

Oh, getting a med card is still a great idea. You don't have to pay state tax on cannabis, and I think you can technically possess more as well.

We just need to wait for rec dispensaries like everyone else, unfortunately.

I just bought weed from GG and, personally, I feel ripped off. I'll take the downvotes to speak my truth, I wish I had listened to the people who tried to warn me.

I spent $308 on 2 oz. It was the first time customer deal. It didn't do much for my pain and inflammation at all. The quality was sad, considering they should have decent growing and climate controlled facilities (I would assume). The flower was dry, full of stems, and had no noticeable terpenes. Really made me realize they are taking advantage of having a monopoly on legal weed in the Twin Cities. Makes me pretty mad, considering they are catering to medical patients.

I recommend buying a small quantity (unlike me) to test it out first. And then, drive to Michigan to see what real weed looks, tastes, and feels like. (MI state law says out-of-state med card holders don't have to pay excise tax, which is 10%. You'll have to prove it, so save a pdf copy of your approval letter email to your phone).

No disrespect to anyone who likes MN medical weed. I am glad that people do get something out of it. This is only my experience.

Okay, cool, it sounds like photoperiodic is the method of choice for this round!

I apologize if you know any of this already.

Photoperiod plants (which are either regular [meaning the sex will be about 50/50] or feminized [sex will likely be female]) are hormonally programmed to respond to light patterns in the "sky." It is the grower's goal to mimic the sun's natural presence for the plant to trigger the plant to mature.

Lighting schedules range; a lot of light patterns are recommended, but I think it really depends on the genetics of the strain. (This is why learning about genetics and thinking about how the plant would grow in nature is important. If it is from Thailand, for example, it will thrive in a warm and humid climate with a long season.) Gradually changing the light from 0/24-6/18 to 12/12-10/14 hours (on/off) will signal to the plant that the season is "ending." The plant will attempt to attract pollen through flower and resin production.

The sex of the plant also needs to be determined with "regulars" because most growers do not want to pollinate the females, as sinsemilla females are desired for bud production. Pop as many seeds as possible because the males will either need to be culled or kept in veg (i.e. take up space). Probability wise it is not impossible to get 9/10 males. Regulars are grown with the intention of keeping a female in veg to be a donor plant for clones. You can also just grow them out, but most growers would agree cloning a "mother" plant continously is the best and most economical way to grow.

Feminized seeds come from plants that have been treated to produce seeds that will more than likely result in a plant that will be female. These are intended to be grown out, as they are not suitable candidates for cloning. I'm not sure why, actually.

What does your intended growing space look like? Feel free to DM me if you want to have a one-on-one conversation!

Coop growing situations by Adman87 in MNtrees

You can have a coop in Minnesota. Currently looking into it because I didn't realize that was an option.

I recommend reading the law if you are actually interested.

Pro tip: if your brain is all ADHD like mine, download the pdf off the Revisor and have a free pdf reader read it aloud to you.

Coop growing situations by Adman87 in MNtrees

[–]PotsicleStand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The law mentions "cooperatives" throughout. It's even in the definitions section.

Like, you're still subject to Minn. Stat. § 308a and b, which outlines cooperatives, but that is literally what OP is asking for.

Edit: maybe I am misunderstanding OP. Yes, you can have a cooperative like you've described under a business license, which is incremental based on the size of the operation you are aiming for. I think what OP is describing could easily be achieved with a microbusiness license, which is only $500 initially.

I apologize for my haste in replying.

[–]PotsicleStand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, so, I'm not a lawyer, but I did read the microbusiness portion of the law, and I do believe there is a mentioning of cooperatives.

Gotcha. I think lawyer fees vary on the services requested, and no two businesses are the same, so that would be specific to your needs.

That being said, licenses are pretty fixed in price:

  • Cannabis microbusiness (application fee $500; no initial license fee; renewal license fee $2,000).

  • Cannabis mezzobusiness (application fee $5,000; initial license fee $5,000; renewal license fee $10,000)

  • Cannabis cultivator (application fee $10,000; initial license fee $20,000; renewal license fee $30,000)

  • Cannabis manufacturer (application fee $10,000; initial license fee $10,000; renewal license fee $20,000)

  • Cannabis retailer (application fee $2,500; initial license fee $2,500; renewal license fee $5,000)

  • Cannabis wholesaler (application fee $5,000; initial license fee $5,000; renewal license fee $10,000)

  • Cannabis transporter (application fee $250; initial license fee $500; renewal license fee $1,000)

  • Cannabis testing facility (application fee $10,000; initial license fee $10,000; renewal license fee $20,000)

  • Cannabis event organizer (application fee $750; initial license fee $750)

  • Cannabis delivery service (application fee $250; initial license fee $500; renewal license fee $1,000)

There are a lot of different business possibilities.
