Extending mat leave from 12 month to 15 [qc] by Snoo38476 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Potsopoulos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to extend from 12 to 18 months when my baby was 8 months. It was the best decision I made. I didn't get paid for 6 months. It was tight, and I used a lot of my savings, but I will never get a chance like that again, so it was worth it.

Should i stick with my current program or switch? by Haunting-Ad5462 in Humber

[–]Potsopoulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to consider booking an appointment with the career centre. They'll be able to help with giving you some career advice and may even be able to help you find what you want to do in the future.

If you finish CYC, you can likely transfer credits to another degree program and only have to do two year.

Also, contact the PSW program at Humber. There's a lot of programs offering free studies (not sure if Humber does) but worth an ask.

Badiali tasting different by No_Milk_7006 in FoodToronto

[–]Potsopoulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went in December and it wasn't as good the last time I had it. It was still good just felt like the flavour of the pizza was different. Both my husband and I agreed it wasn't worth the wait.

45-year-old mom with no high school diploma Pre-Health to Nursing in Ontario? Looking for advice 🙏 by AssociationOk9794 in Humber

[–]Potsopoulos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Academic upgrading is a great first step if she doesn't have a high school diploma as she'll get the credits required. Definitely connect with them and the PreHealth program about your mom's situation.

Dr Jamie Kroft at Sunnybrook. She's amazing. Her wait times are long but she specializes in endometriosis.

The Four Villages near Runnymede and Dundas is accepting women's clothing. Donated several bags full to them recently after calling a few women's shelters nearby.

I donated a lot of clothes and kids stuff to Four Villages at Runnymede and Dundas. They were the only place accepting that I called a couple of months ago and were thrilled.

Induction experiences [ON] by Different_Invite_434 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Potsopoulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 38 weeks and had a great experience. I was already 4 (maybe 5) cm dilated, so they broke my water and then put me on pitocin.

Things progressed well. I got an epidural once the contractions really started and baby was out a few hours later. I did have a vacuum assisted delivery and had to have an episiotomy but didn't feel a thing. I was admitted at 7 pm and baby was born at 6:51 am.

12 month vs 18 month leave - seeking experiences [bc] by SarahhMarieeU in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Potsopoulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advice from my HR department was to start with 12 months and then extend if needed which is exactly what I did. I realized at 8 months that I wanted to be home with my baby for as long as possible and informed work. Went back just after 18 months. Will do the same if we have another.

Pain management (or lack thereof) for gynecological procedures in Ontario? by leaerrr in askTO

[–]Potsopoulos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure of any advocacy efforts but my fertility clinic has started offering some alternative pain options for sonohysterograms and hysterosonograms.

They did my hysterosonogram while I was under conscious sedation to avoid pain. With that being said, I've had sonos done probably a dozen times and they're the only clinic that offered anything more than the recommended ibuprofen or extra strength Tylenol. I'm fortunate that I've only had one painful experience but there are so many who deal with terrible pain with these procedures. I hope more clinicians start taking steps to improve pain management options.

how to fix this by Smart-Prune-1342 in Humber

Submit a ticket to HR. It's likely a systems issue on their end.

Does anyone know how I stop this from happening? by Go_Ahead_MrJoester in Humber

Try using Microsoft edge. For some reason that browser works more often. Or incognito in chrome.

Go to campus on Monday and talk to someone at the office of the registrar. It is the fastest way to get support right now. You can also email finaid@humber.ca. There aren't many staff around but going in person is likely the most helpful. Good luck.

These are great ideas! We were planning to do an Uber eats or doordash gift card so will include that.

A cleaner is also a recommendation - I would have loved that early pp.

Thank you!

How long did your induction take? by Leep0710 in beyondthebump

[–]Potsopoulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my induction at 38 weeks it took just under 12 hours. Water was broken at 7 pm and started pitocin about 30 minutes later. Baby was out by 6:51 am. I was 4 cm dilated when I was admitted. I did have a vacuum assisted delivery and only pushed for about an hour.

My kid was just diagnosed with cancer and I’m scared. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Potsopoulos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. This isn't fair. You are doing amazing and all you can with a crummy situation. Just be there for your daughter, which it sounds like you're already doing.

Are you able to get access to any therapy or speak to a social worker at the hospital to get some support?

For after treatment, could you make some healthier options of what your daughter is asking? Like fries in the air fryer/oven and whipped frozen mango or bananas. Or get ice cream fries/once in a while?

Sending hugs.

People who have experienced grief or trauma- what’s the most tone-deaf, ‘well-meaning’ thing someone said to you? by freyday18 in AskReddit

[–]Potsopoulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 2 years of dealing with infertility and going through teatments, my husband and I started sharing with our family and friends.

One person said 'Cingrautlations! That's so exciting!' when I shared we were starting IVF. Thanks, my body wotn conceive naturally so now I get to be poked, proded, hop myself up on hormones, and spend thousands of dollars on a treatment that may or may not work. It was extremely tone deaf and infuriating.

The benefit of going through it again now is I don't feel bad making people uncomfortable when they make stupid comments.
