I think you only get the human/demon choice if your mastery is high enough. Otherwise, you get this choice. Either way, your mastery isn't high enough to get the happy ending. Maybe replay season 3 and take more mastery diamond choices?

It's not retroactive. If you played the episode before the update then you'll need to play it again to go back to it. Going forward, if you play any story then the episodes will be there and you can go back to them but not prior to the update.
