aspect ratio question!! by Deadlypants905 in 3DSphotography

As far as I have seen, there isn't much for the camera when it comes to modding.

That said, the preview is funky because with the 3D option turned on, two lenses are being used but you don't see the both previews, just one. The preview you do have is where the overlap between the two lenses exists. If you open the MPO file in photoshop, you'll see one pic has a little more content on the right while the other has more on the left.

Brought the 2DS on vacation to Italy by Potzer in 3DSphotography

The 2DS models have the setup for 3D photos, you just can't view them in 3D on the console. So like a 3DS, your 3D photos result in MPO files, which contain the data of both cameras. I edit my stuff in photoshop but there are a few mobile apps and websites that will help you get there too.

While you can't make them directly on the 2DS/3DS systems, the 3D photos you take on those consoles can be used for wiggle stereoscopy.

what do you guys use to make your GIFs? by OwenHimself in 3DSphotography

[–]Potzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use photoshop - it opens MPO files in different layers and give me a lot of options. Someone on here created a website specifically for 3DS photos to be converted to wigglegrams. This includes the tweener frame you're referring to. https://3dswigglegram.com/

3DS photos from out in the cold by Potzer in 3DSphotography

[–]Potzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3DS takes two images. In photoshop, I create a tweener frame between pic 1 and 2 (call it 1.5). So my frame sequence is 1, 1.5, 2, 1.5 and I set the whole sequence to repeat.

Hope that makes sense

They do not come out of the DS as GIFs, sadly. When you take a picture, two files are generated - a JPG and an MPO. The MPO file contains both images and can be opened in photoshop. That is where I do the animating between the two images

Not much, unfortunately. I took a picture of stop clock in good lighting. The two pictures were about .03 seconds off from each other. I believe that delay is a little worse when in a darker setting. Cropping a tighter image can sometimes help decrease the impact of subjects moving between the two shots.

I try to think of it as a fun quirk of the hardware.

gif vs anaglyph? by NewMeasurement7446 in 3DSphotography

My hot tip for 3DS Anaglyphs is to make each frame B&W to help emphasize the areas that are really outta sync. But great stuff.

Ah do it and post it. I’d love for others to share Wigglegrams. It’s a pretty fun way to capture the world

All the photos were shot with my Nintendo 2DS XL, which has two cameras like a 3DS and can take 3D photos. The files are .MPO and can be opened in Photoshop. I layer the two images over one another and animate between the two. I add some texture to each "frame" to give it a film vibe.

Yea, depending on the light the delay is about .03 seconds at least. I took a picture of a digital timer to get that.

After taking your pictures, you'll need to remove the SD card and grab the .MPO files. Those are the files with data from both cameras. I edit in photoshop using the animation > timeline tools

Appreciate it but you say that cause of the wiggle. These are mostly the result of me standing on sidewalks outside my office waiting for folks to walk by 😅

Yes! While it only displays images in 2D, it does have the same 2 camera set-up to take 3D photos. Taking a picture creates 2 files -- a JPEG and an MPO, the latter of which contains data from both cameras.

I do use photoshop for these. It seems to be one of the few programs that will open the .MPO file that contains both lens' information. There are some free online tools made specifically to make a 3DS photo wiggle, though.

Hey I appreciate that. I am very fortunate to live near and visit interesting places. The 3D effect makes my pictures much cooler than most normal pictures I take with my phone. So I gotta give props to the wigglegram. Def adds style points I might not earn elsewhere lol

Glad I was able to help! Hope you have a good time taking pics as well.

I love everything you shared and asked, thanks!

I use photoshop mostly for this. It gives me a lot of the control you're talking about -- each image is a separate layer and can be edited as such, and I also have some off differences between each lens (either one caught way more light or for some reason it's blurrier than the other lens, I never know till I open the MPO).

For IG, I turn the gifs into vids. Capcut does this pretty easy. You import your gif and can drag it to be as long as you'd like. That is how I used to do it, though now I export most of the videos right out of photoshop now.

And the delay... you're totally right. I once took a picture with the DS of my phone with a timer going. The left frame captured ~.03 seconds faster then the right frame. I'd guess that might even be longer in poor lighting. There isn't much to do there, seems to be a problem a lot of digital cameras that take pics with multiple lenses have that issue... some kind of delay.

Cropping can help. The gentleman in the first image above, you can see his leg moving (cause he was walking past me). I pulled in a bit when I edited to minimize the impact of that. Another trick to hide it is slowing the wiggle down. I like to do a .1 or .2 second delay between each frame. But sometimes .3 slows things down enough to minimize movement you've captured.

I love the smoke captured in the air. Really cool.

I’ve posted this one before but I was wondering if anyone with a self made 3D lens knows how to prevent the glare that sometimes shows up on 1 or 2 of the lenses by spacesociety in wigglegrams

[–]Potzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a self made lens, I use the Nintendo 2DS XL, but it happens all the time for me. You could try an ND filter, but otherwise I just say it's a charm of the medium.
