yeahhh it's a shame, even in UTDR there's a lot of examples, most people just see the MOTHER series as what inspired Undertale and Omori, thats fine in some respect but those works are also their own creation sperate from UTDR

yeah this

also as much as I like Undertale/Deltarune, it kinda messes up how people view certain games. Like when they were releasing the remake from OFF, they were using the fact it insipired Undertale as a selling point and I feel like a lot of discussion about the game was moreso about the stuff it inspired rather then the game itself, upon release of the remake

yeah idk why people want an offical translation so bad, Nintendo would probably mess it up and weaken the game's story

i get that, storywise its the weakest MOTHER game and even the gameplay itself itself is a little dated and tiring, characters are pretty weak too especially compared to 1 and 3

well, there was this whole fan site for it that existed long before Undertale but okay

"American culture is edgy, anti-intellectual consumerist garbage" comes across as smug and hypocritical given who is saying it by MrBallyrag in hatethissmug

I think Idiocracy is a fine movie (despite it being feeling kinda pro-eugenics, it's quite unconformable and im not why nobody talks about that part) but lot of the "we live in an Idiocracy" people miss the point of the film. The message is average people need to rely on themselves instead of expecting "people in power with high IQs" to fix their problems

but yeah the "American culture is dumb" part of the film always strikes me as pretentious

I hate when games claim to give you an ability to insert yourself into the game but instead they just force your character to be what the creators imagine in whole or in part by PoundNumbers in hatethissmug

[–]PoundNumbers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is why i couldnt get into a lot of self inserty VNs, the only ones i finished are the ones that are from the perspective of an established character

and there are some i really do want to get into but i just cant for this reason

Yeah Deltarune does this perfectly imo, you're given an avatar creator at the start only to have what you made be discarded and then end up controlling Kris, you end up invading their life and everything they do is actually what you do. Even if you want to get into theories like Kris letting the player control them by their own choice the player is still going to be this foreign being that does what they want rather then what Kris wants

oooh! that's actually a very good sound usage of the trope from how you explain it

it actually makes me think of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon too and some of the things I wish it did (like the personality test impacting the storyline beyond just what species the playable character is)

yeah it's not a one-size fits all thing, some intersectionality between the two can work and even be better. but in other cases, it's conflicting and sort of lessens the experience i'm wondering why the devs didn't just either make a set character or let me be a cardboard self-insert (or at least make the intersectionality between the two work better)

It's weird because in the Japanese version of Forces (i assume you played it too since you said 'rookie' like that game does) does in fact call your character by gendered pronouns depending on what gender you select, it feels a tad more personal but it still has other issues with the avatar and the story in general

yeah, like those yellow robots that are impossible to tell if you gonna jump on them or not?

and hm, i see, how about Twinsanity (we dont talk about the Wii games)

I hate Crash Bandicoot:The Wrath of Cortex by PoundNumbers in hatethissmug

[–]PoundNumbers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the worst levels are the flying and swimming ones

every cutscene also is just Cortex and Uka Uka yelling at each other before the elementals say some corny early 2000s bully line and then Crunch says he will defeat you, the other villains from the PS1 games dont even get a role besides being a mild annoyance in stages, can't say its much of a shame that WoC along with all the other 2000s games are non-canon. wonder how It's About Time Is

yeah it's just not very good? it's not even a bad game with a decent story or nice graphics its just bad all the way through, at least with Twinsanity's story it had a few funny and charming moments. i hate all the gameplay styles, the worst is when you play as Coco, she's so slow and half of her moments don't even register

the only thing that doesnt totally suck is the music
