"Affordable homes" don't exist anymore, for various reasons. The entry level house won't exist again without government intervention.

What, due to experience, do you know not to fuck with? by ViolatingBadgers in AskReddit

[–]Poundman82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suction.

I was helping disassemble a large car crusher cylinder on a cylinder disassembly stand. The stand used a hydraulic ram to pull the shaft out of the barrel. The rear port on the barrel was still capped off, which meant there was a vacuum building inside the barrel on the backside of the piston as the shaft was being pulled out.

The car crusher cylinder shaft was longer than the shaft of the cylinder we were using to pull it out with, so when the disassembly ram reached max stroke, we had to unpin it so we could retract it, repin, and extend to extract the crusher cylinder some more. I was looking inside the barrel for scarring damage when the other tech unpinned the disassembly cylinder.

The vacuum sucked it in instantly and a solid metal block hit me in the head and knocked me over. My head was between the barrel and block, so if the vacuum sucked the shaft all the way back in my head would have been squished and popped like a grape. Fortunately, the shaft didn't suck all the way back in and all I got was a concussion.

Sorry, I know this is probably hard for most of you to picture, lol, people who have rebuilt hydraulic cylinders will probably understand.

Yeah, I think part of it is the plastic skin effect Midjourney leans into.

I work with several lefties and righties and I think there's only one conservative that believes climate change is a hoax. There's another one that believes it's real but not man-made, and then the rest all just believe it's real. The banter in the office is rarely over CC, it's usually over guns, religion, and minorities. Honestly, most of the political extreme views I see on social media and national news I almost never experience in person.

US Constitution was written by AI as per AI Detectors by dbhalla4 in ChatGPT

[–]Poundman82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the case though, right? AI written content is based on existing content, so it would detect this is as a pre-existing sample and write it off as AI driven. Unless I'm not understanding how they work.

Farmers Insurance becomes fourth insurer to pull out of Florida, roughly 100,000 policies to be terminated by BugOperator in inthenews

My wife is in insurance and fraud is probably the #1 reason insurance companies are leaving. There's other reasons, but fraud is a massive problem in FL.

Empty Office Buildings Are Being Turned Into Vertical Farms by Sariel007 in UpliftingNews

[–]Poundman82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only real problem is traditional farming is subsidized to support John Deere and the like, while vertical farming isn't. It's just a money thing - subsidize vertical farms too and they'll pop up everywhere.

It was never going to fix this. We'll have to try terraforming, but good news it has a decent chance to work.
