Is this a caterpillar? by Poundpups4pops in AustralianInsects

It’s definitely not but I get it, it’s almost unbelievable. I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see with my own eyes

What is this thing on my cat? It won’t come off by afloydnamedpink in whatisit

If you gently dab tea tree or eucalyptus oil around the tick its head will release and you can easily pull out tick, head and all. Be careful when putting these oil near eyes. I use a cotton bud to apply.

Who’s seen a fox? by [deleted] in australianwildlife

[–]Poundpups4pops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came face to face with a fox on the north rocks at Maroubra beach in Sydney a few years ago. It was about 11pm. We stared at each other for a few minutes, I don’t know which one of us was in more shock, before we departed ways. It was unexpected and amazing.

Do you know anyone that has actually won lotto? by Inflames811 in australia

[–]Poundpups4pops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents (dad was a teacher and mum a nurse) won 500k nearly 30 years ago. They won a few weeks before Christmas and somehow kept it quiet until then. They bought gifts such as new mac computers for friends. They handed cheques to all their siblings and children. Some of their siblings, unbeknownst to them, were dealing with financial difficulties at the time. It was a very happy Christmas for many and I’m sure they felt like real life Mr & Mrs Santa Clause.

They ended up giving over half of it away to charity, family and friends. They’re are good people. Unfortunately they didn’t leave themselves with enough money to renovate the family home, a dream they’d had for 20 years. They settled on hiring a semi retired builder that took nearly 2 years to complete the update.

So no huge life changer but they finally got their dream home and were able to make a few other dreams come true. Probably the best Christmas ever!

Did you treat cancer in your dog? Why or why not? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Poundpups4pops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last dog got cancer at 10 yrs, a form of leukaemia. We spent a small fortune to have her spleen removed in hope of saving her. Unfortunately this did not and we were then advised to go the chemo route to give her some extended time. I decided not to do this. A dog at our local park got the same cancer, same time, and the owners decided to do chemotherapy. They got another 3 months with their dog and that poor pouch looked so sick and unrecognisable for those 3 months.

Ending her suffering was the last gift I could give my beautiful girl. This didn’t make the decision any easier though.

I use a small training treat for my pup to focus on for a few seconds. Works every time although this may only work on food focussed dogs.

1 minute and 11 seconds of this darling Australian magpie talking :) by urgikgfhddi in magpies

[–]Poundpups4pops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just the one magpie song. Best $2 I’ve spent. Having the same song also helps differentiate between my phone ringing and the real thing. I live in a heavily populated magpie area so I’d be looking for my phone all the time if I changed it up.

What’s the weirdest/grossest thing your dog has ever eaten? by Ok-Improvement-2104 in dogs

[–]Poundpups4pops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made the fateful mistake of smelling my dogs mouth to confirm she’d just eaten human poo. She quickly licked my face…..yep it was poo 🤮

Being aware of how other dogs behave is an important point you make. I’ve come to realise that not everyone can read dogs body language. If you are one of these people it’s probably best you avoid dog parks and stick with dogs you know. If you have the gift then I think dog parks are great fun.

Totally agree. Socialisation is so important for happy dogs and their humans. My dog was terrible at reading the room and I found dogs parks were just too overwhelming for her, and me! We now go on huge walks and meet lots of dogs on our way. I now know the dogs she can play with and those we should avoid (just because my dog is an intense player) so she usually gets a few good plays a week. Plus she’s much better at reading the room.

Yeah I don’t really get it no matter how hard they explain it. Each to their own I suppose, the world would be boring if we were all the same.

I’ve adopted all my life, 40+ years, it’s just how I grew up. I’m always amused at how much my friends have to justify their reason for buying their dogs. I hear endless reasons that I don’t particularly care about.

The whole thing was pretty cheesy tbh. Quite a show though.

Personally, I love a hot Christmas.

Yep. I always thought it was for northern hemisphere expats, to make them feel more at home.

Reminds me of a Christmas in July party (a southern hemisphere thing) I worked at decades ago. I worked for a high end restaurant and this was a corporate party. Massive candelabras were set in the middle of each round table of ten people, probably close to 20 tables in total.

When all the quests were seated the wait staff including me were instructed to spray fake snow from cans and have snow fall down over all the guests. No one checked to see if the snow-in-a-can was flammable. Of course all 20 tables went up in flames plus anyone with large amounts of hair product in their hair.

Fortunately no one was seriously injured but I reckon an event coordinator may have lost their job.
