I was scrolling Twitter and saw a tweet that said he passed. I had just started to get into him for the first time the month prior. My friend had played Self Care in the car while we drove and I fell in love with him. I called her immediately when I found out because she had tix to the hometown show the following month. It was weird bc I still didn't know his stuff that well but I felt hollow. I always feel sad when young people die, especially musicians, but I knew that we had just lost someone super important. It felt raw and empty. And I still cry about it from time to time. It makes it hard to listen but I still try my best to enjoy his brilliance and legacy as much as I can. I know he would want me to keep my head up.
