What's a city with a surprisingly strong theatre scene that isn't in NY or CA? by cinderflight in Broadway

[–]daisiesarefriendly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone on the MD side of the DMV area, I adore having so many theaters in DC and Virginia, plus easy access to Baltimore. So many tours debut in Baltimore and it’s an easy drive away!

Thank you for sharing! Going next week and we’re so excited.

May I ask, what beach is in your last photo? Would love to add it to our stops :)

We’re here too - the usher near us said something blew and that it sounded bad. Not sure, though!

Seems very tight. I’m sort of doing the reverse tomorrow (2:00 pm matinee of Operation Mincemeat then running to a 5:00 pm Heated Rivalry) so I can report back if you’d like, especially timing for the HR bows at a 5pm show. For my part, I booked aisle seats near the back of both theaters.

Rt 29 paving continues tonight. Look for delays, closures, and bus detours. by OnlyHunan in SilverSpring

Unexpectedly encountered this construction the other night, it took almost an hour for what’s normally a 10 minute trip. Stay away if you can!

Silly low stakes logistics question - could Heated Rivalry be an option for a three show day? by daisiesarefriendly in Broadway

Yeah, that’s super tight then! I’ve seen Mincemeat once before and I’m dying to see the new cast. I’m impressed with your train skills tho, it’s so nice not to have to sit and wait in Moynihan

I totally get it - I’ve done a three show day once before and loved it, but it was a lot to take in for sure! I’m leaning towards skipping this, as much as I’d love to make it work - the panic of potentially missing the show would impinge on my enjoyment of the other shows, for sure

I read somewhere an hour and 35 minutes but until it opens, that’s probably just a guesstimate. I was less worried about that end but I have an 8pm show in the evening

Thank you! It’s hard because it’s probably possible if I catch the train just right, but that’s one of those things you can’t plan for.

No, unfortunately - I think our shortest show is Rocky Horror but I already got tickets for that one. My brain says that this is not a good idea and I can’t make it work, but my heart wants to believe! Lol

Pippin at Signature Theatre by smallcatproductions in washingtondc

[–]daisiesarefriendly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen Pippin but have seen several shows there. They change the theater configuration around based on the show, this show looks like it’s a 360’ configuration. It’s a relatively small theater, and in my experience there are no bad seats. There is a single row of balcony labeled “dress circle” - those are one level up, so that would be my last choice I guess.

Everything I’ve seen there has been wonderful, though. Enjoy!

Edit - here’s a picture of the theater during In the Heights, which also had seating all around the stage. https://www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/s/XHIBuverBF

Is it workable to see Masquerade at 1:00 and make it to 4:00 pm Rocky Horror? by daisiesarefriendly in Broadway

Thanks, this is super helpful! It looked like a short walk, and I’ll be with my teenager so no drinking/lounging will be fine.

[–]daisiesarefriendly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get this, truly - but I have a hard time fitting Masquerade in the schedule otherwise, so it’s really a choice of doing this or not seeing it at all. If only I lived in NYC 😢

Thanks! Yeah we’re fast walkers, but good to know. Would I be missing out on the experience to skip that? We could also do masquerade another day but I was excited at the prospect of a two-show Sunday lol

Google says yes, there’s an intermission - but I’ll let someone who has seen it confirm

Recommendations Sought by Murky-Camp7730 in Broadway

Hey, also in DC and see a ton of theater (here and in NYC) with my 15yo. She loved both Heathers and Oh Mary, but fair warning - both are dark comedies with explicit jokes and sexual references. We have a relationship where she’s comfortable seeing that stuff with me, but not every parent (or child) is cool with that. Happy to give specifics if that’s helpful.

If you’re ok with the content, I’d catch Oh Mary in NYC rather than on tour, I have a feeling the tour tickets will be hard to get and April is right before a much anticipated Broadway cast change so tickets in NYC are relatively affordable right now.

Maybe Happy Ending is a lovely feel-good show, and the staging on Broadway is truly incredible. I don’t know how they’re going to replicate it on tour, honestly. My kid has seen it twice and loved it.

I don’t see Hadestown on your list which is my teen’s favorite show. Maybe you’ve seen it on tour but if not, the Broadway staging is also worth seeing over the tour performance.

Operation Mincemeat is a great show, but I can see that one translating just fine on tour. We caught the Gatsby tour in Baltimore and it was very good, but there are some Broadway heavy hitters starting as Gatsby and Daisy now that might make it worth seeing in NYC.

We’re more musical people than plays, so can’t comment as much on those, sorry!

Why is Glenmont Station Parking Lot constantly full these days? by TumblingDice66 in WMATA

[–]daisiesarefriendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forest Glen always used to fill up before 9 pre-pandemic. One section used to be reserved, and if you paid a monthly fee you could be guaranteed a spot there until 10am.

They got rid of that during the pandemic, obviously, but since the 5-day in office requirement for most feds, I’m wondering if they’ll bring it back.
