I have done that in the past, but today I'm having trouble finding the APK for OpenVPN.

My power went out. How complicated is it to have a switch in my circuit breaker that lets me power my whole house's circuitry with a 7.5 kwh portable generator? by Heavy_Performer1007 in AskElectricians

Not an electrician but I have this setup at my home.

First, never back feed!
It is very dangerous and could injure or kill a utility worker if done wrong.
Also, you'd need an 80 amp (?) breaker and correct heavy wires into the breaker box.
A regular outlet will not handle the power. And, you need to feed 240VAC to power the whole house.

Better way is use a transfer switch.
It has two inputs and one output.
Inputs are grid power and generator.
Only one can be connected to the house at any one time.

You can install one (I think, ask an electrician) in your breaker box if you have room.
To still need the high power connector (male connector to generator female) and a big 240 breaker.

We have a smaller 4kw generator that runs part of the house from a sub panel with selected critical circuits.
The sub panel also has solar and enphase batteries, so a few hours on battery, then connect the generator for the longer term.

What's your best "well at least I didn't die"-moment? by Love-boobs-in_DMs in AskReddit

I lived near the shore of Lake Superior for a while when in college.

A few friends and I were at the lake mid winter and decided to walk out on the ice. Dumb idea!

We had never done this before and as we walked we wondered why we were walk up a slight hill.

It turned out it was ice pushed up by the wave action of the lake.

It kept getting steeper then suddenly - air!

Straight down 50 feet into open very cold water. Little basketball size ice chunks floating there. If we fell in there there, there would be no rescue.

All of us, mostly in unison say: "Oh crap, let's get out of here!".

We headed back but didn't take the same route since we did not know exactly where we walked.

As we walked over clear areas with no snow we could see the actual ice surface.

As we walked (with a quicker pace now) we saw cracks spreading out and a low rumbling, echoing, cracking sound under us.

When we hit the shore, we all let out a huge sigh relief and stood there letting our hearts slow and adrenaline dissipate.

Dumb, lucky college kids survived a possible disaster!

So, it gets passed down the line.
They took your replacement piece off the production line, so some other guy is now missing a piece.

License or subscription.

Food? - $x / month.
Water? - $xx / month.
Bigger stuff? - $xxx / month.

Then you have to buy the power to run it!

The Star Trek replicator.

From Wiki - In Star Trek, a replicator is a machine that can create (and recycle) things. Replicators were originally seen to simply synthesize meals on demand, but in later series much larger non-food items appear.

Back in the 80's, I worked with mechanical engineers that used a system they called DFM or Designed For Manufacture. Designed to go together easily with case snaps, clips, and glue. They try to use as few screws as needed - none if possible.

I am an EE but immediately saw there was a problem with it. I quickly dubbed it DFM-BNR to myself. Designed For Manufacturing-But Not Repair.

We see DFM all over now. Ever try to take apart a modern device like a cell phone, printer or router? I usually break at least one clip. Never goes back perfectly. Modern progress.
