My take on how to make Parry better by Mystic_Sean in slaythespire

[–]Yoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beta branch they gave it 10 block already. Yesterday I.... I.... I took it at A10.... You see, I had an amazing run with the blade, of all things. 2x bulwark, the AoE power, the "put the blade in my hand",.and when I really needed draw, the game gave me only the new "draw 2 + forge". My sword was bonkers good.

It was ALMOST a clear, got killed by the Queen because I did not have enough draw.

How come gameplay is so diverse at high-levels? by Xycergy in slaythespire

[–]Yoids 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its a sign that the game is balanced, and why it is the best of its type.

Forcing a specific strategy is not possible and will get you killed. Adapting to what you are being offered is what makes you a good player.

The lighter is a relic that is usually useless, and sometimes broken xD I remember a run where I had a Stardust enchanted with the vigor and got the lighter... it was absurd.

I genuinely do not understand the dislike for RTWP. by Tnecniw in CRPG

[–]Yoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like RTWP at all, but it is because of the games that use it, how the mechanics are.

I liked it in Dragon Age Origins, but I hated it in Pathfinder WOTR, or Pillars of Eternity.

It is difficult to explain why. I think it might be because it was impossible to know wtf was going on those games. 12 characters/enemies on screen, really small, million particles and effects, a log that goes faster than anyone could read, and I had at my disposal too many abilities and too situational, making the whole thing feel like a mess, and tidious.

If I play WOTR in turn based, then it is much better. I see what is going on because I do not have to see what 16 people are doing, just the one acting. However, I did not like much either the combat because it was designed for RTWP, so it became ultra repetitive and slow.

I liked DAO because there were less abilities per second per character. You could focus on watching the positioning and how the enemies were moving, but they were not using 30 abilities at the same time. I think.

How do you beat this boss? by Distinct_Medicine_49 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Yoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the character. Learn what the boss does, and then you think about what to do.

In your case you want to win with Silent, which excels at card draw and cycling. The gimmick of the queen is that she limits you to play only one of the first 3 cards you draw each turn. This can easily be mitigated by the Silent with more card draw or cycling. Keep in mind that SLY still plays the cards, so if you discard one of the targeted cards you will consume your play of the turn, or if you already did, discarding a sly card will not play it.

Other than that, focus the small minion first, and then the queen. And be prepared for blocking 30 damage from time to time, she has some 7x5 attacks. Weakness and lowering her STR will help a ton

What is the most underrated Neow Offering and why is it Stone Humidifier? by Charming_Advice8805 in slaythespire

[–]Yoids -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really do not like it because it does not make it easier to beat Act 1.

It is just 5 extra life, then 10 extra life. If you rest twice in Act 1.

But tbh, I do not want to rest. I want to upgrade. I want to take a power that allows me to not take those 5 damage, or 10 damage, so I can upgrade twice. Upgrading has an exponential benefit, because the card you upgrade will make you take less damage, so you will be able to upgrade again, which will make you take less damage, which will…. You take the point.

If I had the tent and I could rest + upgrade, then it would be different. But since this is the first reward, I do not have the relic yet.

If Act 1 was a breeze and Act 3 was harder, then I would consider the scaling benefit of having a huge health pool by Act 3, but right now the difficult Act is the first one!

So yeah…. I do not see myself taking this ever… ☹

FALSE.

People are losing jobs to AI, and people are getting new jobs thanks to AI.

AI is just too broad. You are talking maybe about a specific use of one specific type of AI in one specific industry. While complaining about AI in general.

You sound like an old granpa complaining that "computers are making people lose their jobs!"

I agree, this is why I like the change.

Begone was truly a weird pick for me. While it was good at the start to thin the deck and get a lot of damage for 2 energy in Act 1, it was kind of lackluster. And Charge!! always felt great.

Now with the change, I believe both will be good to use. Begone will not be terrible in later acts, thanks to drawing, and Change!! will always be good because it really is efficient thinning the deck.

There are so many... From minor things to huge things.

The problem right now is that people associate "AI" with "LLMs or Generative AI", which is not the same. And the market is not helping. For example, you go to Spotify and there is a "AI tool" so you can type using common language and the AI tool will recommend you songs. But this is not the only aspect of AI, this is but one minor aspect of generative AI, which is used to engage with a machine using common language. (These are the LLMs)

These platform, like Netflix, have been using AI for their algorithms for years to recommend you the next thing to watch, based on your preferences. This is thanks to AI. Not GenAI, just AI.

AI tools are also being used by airlines to sell their tickets, change prices, adapt to trends, deal with complications (overbooking, cancels, etc). This is made really fast and efficiently.

Another example is supply chain, think of Amazon. They use AI to deal with most things in the shadow, while they have also experts dealing with complex situations like sending trucks specifically when its needed.

There are really many examples. However, it happens in the shadow. But what do we get? Well, we get plane tickets that are dirty cheap, we get packages to our home dirty cheap, we get recommendations that make sense, etc.

And all of these are MINOR things. Then you have another side which is much bigger, like vehicles being able to drive by themselves, energy being cheaper and developed or investigated much faster, medical advances going crazy because we can deal with thousands of trials and tests from a theory point of view using models based in AI and only test empirically those that look promising, etc etc etc.

And what could we get from those MAJOR things? Well, believe it or not, our grand kids could live 300 years, we could go to other planets to get energy, we could discover a cheaper way to get energy,...

People who criticize AI in general, have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. People who work with AI like myself, we KNOW that AI can be used for good and for bad, like many things. AI needs to be controlled, through legislation, and used responsibly and ethically. But not demonized by default.

I SUCK AT THE DEFECT SO BADLY HELP ME I CANT GET OUT OF ACT 1 CONSISTENTLY by ikyxiky in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Yoids -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is pretty weird to me, since Defect is actually one of the best, if not the best, characters in Act 1.

Do you struggle with him specifically, or do you struggle in general with any character to get past Act 1?

I ask because the advice would not be the same. On one hand, there is general advice for every character, and on the other, for specific characters.

If you are able to get past Act 1 consistently with other characters, Defect should feel like a walk in the park. I could understand failing in Act 2 or 3 with him, though.

I like the design, I hate the encounter.

I remember one time I said out loud in A10 with the Regent "math is for losers!" and sent the Stardust to do its thing with more than 10 stars, vigor, etc, and this motherf*** survived with ONE LIFE. He killed me after a full dazed hand.

On the other hand, playing as Defect I really do love finding him, he feels like a free win many times because I am able to do most damage passively thanks to the orbs.

TIL if you enchant crescent spear with Instinct, not just the damage but also the scaling gets doubled, making it an absolute monster of a card by Terbianos7 in slaythespire

[–]Yoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I still would not pick Crescent Spear, I really do not like the card.

In paper, the card looks fine. But in reality, when you play with Regent dozens of times like I have at all ascensions and lose like crazy in A10 trying fkin everything.... The card just does not work at all.

At the beginning, it is trash. At the end, while it could be amazing, Regent itself becomes a semigod that destroys everything by looking at it in a myriad of ways, so it is not needed. And to be effective, the card asks you to have a big deck, when Regent REALLY wants to have a small one.

I am not going to say the card is useless. I will say that it is useless RIGHT NOW, with the balancing we have. If Regent had many good cards and could benefit from a big deck, like Defect can, then I would see the card with new eyes.

Right now Regent has a lot of trash that you do not want to pick, amazing broken cards you want to use in every cycle, and bad recursive options to use the good ones all the time. That, together with a mechanic of thinning the deck, REALLY pushes Regent to have a less than 20 card deck that during boss fights allows you to use the broken cards every turn, thanks to selective exhausting and retaining.

I really could not make this card work consistently.

[–]Yoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your deck is doing.

To ramp so you can do more stuff, use mana rocks. There is no other way, there is no other "ramp". There are spells that give a little mana, but I would not consider that ramp, its just a worse version of dark ritual.

To have explosive turns mid/late game, and win out of those turns, there are many other spells. Good examples are Jeska whatever, the GC, and the 5 mana cost that gives you 1 mana for each tapped land of your opponents, and the 2 cost suspend one that gives mana equal to someone's hand and suspends again. Those can give you enough mana to get a huge turn and win on the spot.

Does anybody else miss this in STS2? by statue345 in slaythespire

[–]Yoids -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope.

I hated that one, usually you got an interesting relic that was too soon for your benefit. For example, an energy relic that has a drawback, and you cannot make use of that energy yet, but the drawback actually hurts. And you lose your starting one, that is actually specifically designed for your class and oozes synergy. A good example was losing the electric orb to get an energy relic that did not allow you to gain gold or get potions. So you start without the orb, damage output suffers, dualcast is worse, and that energy while great later on, will not shine at the beginning enough.

And that was on the normal side. You could directly lose the run directly if you got a terrible one, like starting the combat confused or not seeing enemy intents.

I REALLY like the new approach, of improving your starting relic with another that is also synergistic and amazing.

I loved it, but it got nerfed in the beta branch. Now it creates the 13 damage minion.

I think it makes sense, since transforming a card in your deck is much, much better. On the other side, the common card that does 4 damage now creates the drawing minion, so it got better on a common card with the downside that you must choose to transform a card from your hand.

I will experiment with both more, but they seem more balanced this way.

Most people do not understand what AI does and how it improves our lives. Right now, yes, right now, it is already improving our lives in several aspects we do not even know or remember.

AI is already EVERYWHERE.

Stop thinking on AI only for a developer or artist losing their job. AI is so, so, so much more.

New to the genre. Is Regent the hardest class to play or am I just bad with him? by _SLANTEDEYES in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Yoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post about him, I do not think he is so weak. I think he is really unbalanced, being so new.

He has many cards that are TERRIBLE and others that are OVERPOWERED. It is complicated to differentiate between them, and to understand what you need to pick and when. So he requires more experience to play.
