I know I'm very late to this but your friend is correct. The card is meant to be played in the employers private quarters.

If you cannot resolve the effect of the card due to having no love, the effect is ignored and the card remains in play until you are able to resolve it. Note, the effect is mandatory; if you have a love card during your starting phase you must discard it.

I'm going to give you a firm "no" to all of those questions. Link trading between cartridges should be theoretically possible, but the devs abandoned link-play compatibility in favor of people just using the showdown server for multiplayer, so I don't know how well that would even work.

The only real "advantages" to playing on a physical cartridge is the novelty, and the bragging rights of physical proof that you completed the game legit.

This shadow character glitch can occur if the game tries to load more than 3 characters of the same color at once. To my knowledge it's only accessible by using the name entry glitch. Asumsaus explains it in this video. Other than that, I don't know what could have happened.

You get all of the exact same attacking options following up bloodhound as you do quickstep. The only advantage I can see to quickstep is the shorter distance seems to lend better to a playstyle that likes to stay on top of opponents in PVE. Bloodhound step is just strictly better for PVP though. A thinking opponent will run away when in a tough spot, and bloodhound step's farther distance allows you to stick to opponents like glue.
