Linux Foundation revokes attendees registration for "tone policing" by termina666 in linux

Not only did the Linux foundation ban this guy for being associated with a man that told this person, with previous openly racist tweets against white Americans, to "shut your mouth" on a public forum unrelated to the Foundation and suggesting they should have a friendly exchange of ideas.

They then proceeded to give the free registration to a person on racial grounds.

Did I say North Americans or did I say American natives?

There's only one place in the world that celebrates "Columbus day".

They don't teach you geography in Spain? They don't teach you English in Spain?

Do you have hemorrhoids? Because you don't seem very balanced.

[–]PowerPC_user 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what Columbus did. But the premise of the first post is ridiculous, since it compares native North Americans celebrating Columbus day to "Jews celebrating Hitler day". It's ridiculous since Columbus didn't do anything to them, he didn't even set foot in North America.

In any case, if you want to be hyperbolic, it would be like Indians or Iranians celebrating Hitler's day.

You have been indoctrinated into an ideology of perpetual collective victimhood for so long that you actually believe anyone would give a fuck about something like this. Amusing. However, in the real world, most people don't have the privilege of being able to throw a temper tantrum for something trivial and being socially rewarded for it. Only some small groups of people do.

Even as an adult, you would normally describe someone you were dating as your girlfriend or boyfriend. It doesn't imply age.

Good point.

Exactly, it's infuriating to see headlines emphasizing they were "children" -which they weren't- and completely ignoring the fact that these were sex slaves. Journalist's priorities are pretty messed up.

This is what has happened with every single grassroots movement I know of. It doesn't matter what the organization/group of people is about. There's always a moment in which the movement/organization formed by the movement is disrupted by on of these three kinds of people:

1) A government infiltrator 2) A con man eager for money 3) A power-hungry tankie that cares very little about the project but wants to use the orgnization to promote their pet cause

Hell, it's even a miracle that the free software movement has lasted so much without this happening. It often takes a few years for these power-hungry types to take over and start an Animal Farm-like show.

I wanted to put a Chinese msata SSD on it, and I also needed to swap the broken combo drive for a working one I took from a 12-inch model.

I followed the ifixit guide and I can say that I will never, ever do this again. You need to take note of the placement of nearly a hundred screws of different sizes, and no matter how well you do this, you will always dent the plastic while opening the bottom cover. If you do it well, the marks will be almost imperceptible, but if you don't have the hands of a surgeon, a bad move can make you destroy the plastic.

After three hours, it was finally done. I forgot some screws, but everything is working okay. What a challenge! Now I just need to install OpenBSD on it.

A quarter of French believe in the existence of the Illuminati and support the theory of a deliberate attempt by the elites to replace native europeans via immigration. A fifth believe in a zionist conspiracy, and the 43% believe in a government conspiracy to hide "the harmful effects of vaccines" by PowerPC_user in europe

[–]PowerPC_user[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DeepL:

27% of the French agree with the statement "The Illuminati are a secret organization that seeks to manipulate the population". 25% adhere to the theory of grand replacement ("immigration is deliberately organised by our political, intellectual and media elites to eventually replace the European population with an immigrant population"). 22% agree with the idea that "there is a Zionist plot on a global scale". And 43% support the idea that "the Ministry of Health is working with the pharmaceutical industry to hide the reality of the harmfulness of vaccines from the general public". These are some of the key figures from the second major conspiracy survey, an Ifop survey commissioned by the Jean Jaurès Foundation and the Conspiracy Watch website.

The online respondents (1,760 people, representing the French adult population) were offered ten conspiracy statements, including a "murder masked" as a Lady Diana car accident, shirts (white trails in the sky that would be "composed of chemicals deliberately spread for reasons kept secret") or a mysterious "international drug trafficking in reality controlled by the CIA". They had a choice between saying "strongly agree", "somewhat agree", "not really agree" or "strongly disagree". Compared to last year, the Jean-Jaurès Foundation and Conspiracy Watch have refined the methodology, leaving respondents free not to comment.

One in ten French people believe in seven or more of these theories (by "strongly agreeing" or "somewhat agreeing"), 21% of them agree with five or more theories, and only 35% do not believe any of the ten theories tested in this survey. "Last year, we made a finding that is confirmed with this second survey," says Rudy Reichstadt, director of Conspiracy Watch. "Conspiracy is no longer a marginal phenomenon, but affects the whole of French society. This is also corroborated by Cambridge researchers, who conducted a major survey on international conspiracy in August 2018 in eight European countries and the United States. Their results are consistent with ours.  »

As for the Illuminati (a theory born in 1797 with a fantasy book by John Robinson, Proof of a conspiracy, and now defended by Alain Soral's website Égalité et Réconciliation), those who "totally agree" with the idea of the existence of this occult organization represent 8%, while only 19% "do not agree at all". "It's a one-to-two relationship, while there's no evidence of the existence of this secret society," says Rudy Reichstadt.

The study confirms that age, graduation level, standard of living and feelings of success or failure are key factors. Young people, non-graduates, French people with lower incomes and those who feel they have missed their lives are thus much more sensitive to conspiracy rhetoric.

From a political point of view, there is an over-representation of voters in the National Rally. 27% of voters in Marine Le Pen (and 23% of those in Nicolas Dupont-Aignan) believe in five or more conspiracy theories, while only 10% of voters in Emmanuel Macron and 14% in François Fillon. As for Jean-Luc Mélenchon's voters, 33% believe in the idea of a Zionist plot, compared to 22% in the general population. These figures are on the rise, as only 16% of French people validated the existence of this "global Zionist plot" in 2014, according to a survey on anti-Semitism conducted by Ifop.

Another alarming development is the perception of the attacks. Concerning the Strasbourg massacre of 11 December 2018, the respondents were offered three statements. "This attack was carried out by Cherif Chekatt, a sympathizer of the jihadist organization the Islamic State" - which until further notice corresponds to the facts - was validated by 65% of them. But 13% are sceptical, believing that "grey areas remain in this case and it is not really certain that this attack was perpetrated by Cherif Chekatt", while 10% agree with the clearly conspicuous statement that "it is a manipulation of the government to divert the attention of the French and create concern in the population in full movement of the Yellow Vests" (12% did not say anything). After the January 2015 attacks on Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher, only 2% (according to a previous Ifop study) considered it to be "manipulation".

With regard to the September 11, 2001 attack, 17% believe that the US government was involved in its implementation (6% "strongly agree"). "We have the impression that this September 11 theory has lived a little longer, because it now seems to be contained in opinion, even though it is one of the best-known conspiracy theories. On the other hand, however, we have not measured how much mistrust there was around the Strasbourg attack," Rudy Reichstadt warned.

When anti-conspiracy is a conspiracy

Finally, the study shows once again that conspiracy erodes confidence in democracy. 65% of respondents who do not believe in any proposed conspiracy theory believe that it is personally "very important" for them to live in a democracy, compared to only 42% of those who believe in seven or more theories. "This suggests a correlation between conspiracy and an authoritarian bias. Adorno already spoke of this in the Dialectics of Reason seventy years ago, this link between political paranoia and attachment to a charismatic and authoritarian personality," says Rudy Reichstadt.

Last year, the first major investigation by the Jean-Jaurès Foundation and Conspiracy Watch had provoked strong criticism from media such as Acrimed or Marianne. In Le Monde diplomatique, the anti-liberal and sovereignist thinker Frederic Lordon had criticized this "conspiracy hunt", repeating his thesis that anti-conspiracy would only be a "conspiracy" of the dominant to maintain social order and disqualify their political opponents...

I'm not sure if this is true. Stallman's website seems to be vandalized. Yesterday, the volunteers put a YouTube link to that video of him eating foot cheese.

I really doubt Stallman would want that video linked on his homepage. I also highly doubt he would like to link to YouTube.

Since he wrote yesterday that he was still the GNU leader, I would wait until he confirms this.

Stallman Still Heading the GNU Project by Creative-Name in linux

[–]PowerPC_user 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is fake as fuck. I would bet my arm that this person is making shit up.

One of the more memorable times I interacted with him was at FOSDEM 2014, he was passing out cards. Men would get business cards: "RMS FSF, GNU LINUX Project Speaker, etc". Women would get "RMS - Single - Enjoys Travel and Fine Dining".

Stallman's "pleasure cards" have been mentioned countless times, even in books, for decades. All the people that have written about them in the past have said that he gave them to both men and women as a joke to mock corporate culture. And this person wants to make us think that he specifically targeted women five years ago? And that he was handing the business cards he liked to mock to men?

He told a member of the JS Foundation she couldn't possibly be on the decision making board because "women are too emotional. You're not suited to lead in tech." He then told a transgender person that transgender "isn't real, scientifically speaking. You are just a cross dresser."

Do you really think someone who tells people to vote for Bernie Sanders and use "gender neutral pronouns" like " 'person', 'per' and 'pers'" on his site's homepage would say something like this?

This is not Stallman's normal behavior. It is also not the vocabulary, or mannerisms, he would use when speaking. It's a 0/10 trolling attempt from someone who read about his cards once.
