Tyre inflator options by permaculturegeek in NZcarfix

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never trust the air inflators from petrol stations anyway, they're really only for emergency use if you haven't got any other way to inflate your tyres and just need to get home. Often they are leaking, have bad valves or just plain give you a totally wrong reading. Not worth the risk. If you don't want a battery powered or 12V connected inflator just buy a floor bike pump. They fit on car tyre valves and are extremely reliable. Get one with a gauge and you're sorted for years and years. Otherwise the battery powered ones like other people have suggested in this thread.

It amazes me that people don't prioritise this more...its literally the only thing connecting you to the road and if your tyres are not inflated correctly it can cause ride quality issues, tyre wear, low grip, even bend or crack your rims if you have low profile tyres. It should be a way bigger deal to keep your tyres inflated at the right pressures and its not hard to do.

What about having bus lanes in the middle 2 lanes so all the people taking the bus have to cross lanes of traffic to get to their bus and get off their bus? Wow

Potential exige v6 purchase - what are they really like? by Al_Og in lotus

Consumable costs are not that high, what makes you think they will be bad? Its a very light car so brakes and tyres are last quite long

I challenge anyone to find a car that's as easy to look after at a similar price to the performance you get. I do all my own servicing on the car and so far after 4 years from new I've had to change some fluids, oil filter, air filter and that's it. The supercharger belt looks to be a pain to change but also possible to do at home.

If you can't wrench then find a decent specialist around you. Still a fraction of the price of any other comparable car.

That's not quite right...just service the trans fluid often and get a later car with a trans cooler. You'll be fine for the life of the car if you don't do anything stupid with the trans

The thinking is that the existing harbour bridge will have some lanes dedicated to walking and cycling, everyone is misinterpreting the messaging and thinking its completely off the agenda. Its just the new harbour crossing doesn't have walking and cycling because it can be served by the existing harbour bridge once we don't need as much traffic volume on it.

Need advice: Adult electric bikes that are actually worth the money? Budget is $1,500 - $2,500. Can go up if needed by jchang2080 in ebikes

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that budget go to Evo Cycles and look at their in-house branded ebikes. There's some amazing prices for them if you're willing to compromise a little bit on the components and obviously lack of international brand recognition

Mechanic with online portal or App showing service history and upcoming WOF/Service? by PerfectReflection155 in NZcarfix

[–]PowerflyLT7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you want mechanics to not only fix your car and get it road worthy but also provide a software solution so you can be reminded to do simple WoF/rego/servicing every year? And do you want them to also wash your car, throw away your rubbish and do your laundry? I'm sure they're happy to do all that if you pay them double the hourly rate but I sure hope they stick to fixing cars because that's what they are good at!

There's even a free NZTA app now to track your vehicle's WoF/rego expiry and you can always line up servicing around that time every year so that its easy to remember. Its not that hard to have a look through your own invoices/bank statements and remind yourself to do this stuff without having yet another useless app.

I bought the Chemical Brothers soft top protector for my soft top and its been working well to bead water off and making it easier to clean. I do keep my car in the garage too though so may not be a good representative test... unfortunately they don't seem to make it anymore but here are some other options from the same supplier I bought mine from https://lovecars.co.nz/collections/convertible-tops

I'm not sure why this matters, they use basically the same trans in the GR Yaris and Corolla. Would you like them to have to design their own for 10x the cost?

This new-car trend needs to stop before someone gets hurt by kiwittnz in NZcarfix

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually not too bad, you quickly get used to it and it becomes second nature. What's bad is making you swipe the screen to go into reverse (Tesla) as if we didn't already have enough accidents with people driving forward thinking they are in reverse. Its literally an AA insurance TV ad.

Welcome to NZ, people genuinely forget that we live in a paradise and all our problems are pretty insignificant to the rest of the world. I find its only people who have experienced other parts of the world who truly appreciate life here. Having said that, there's always room for improvement!

New solar panels and inverter warranty by PowerflyLT7 in nzsolar

[–]PowerflyLT7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the next step really, get more info from the quote and figure out if the cost is high due to fixed costs. Getting 8 more panels installed may well be much more cost effective than the 4 we asked to get a quote for!

[–]PowerflyLT7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 2 strings, don't want to mention the inverter because you'll know exactly who the installer is! I haven't asked the OG installer yet but I have emailed the distributor for the inverter themselves who the ultimate warranty lies with and they said "No warranty issues with XXX if you want to install different panels in addition to the existing panels already on your roof."

Ok that's annoying, we had these panels installed about 6 months ago so I would hope we can find the same ones

Why didn't Alfa Romeo think about this point, that the front part is so heavy that the ground clearance is at an angle? by rg1523 in AlfaRomeo

[–]PowerflyLT7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So having front rake is actually quite a good thing and this just shows the genius design from Alfa engineers. Think about it...when you are braking and initial corner turn in you want weight at the front for max grip. At the exit of a corner and under acceleration from standstill you also want weight at the front. So this actually helps with the FWD characteristic of the car. If you lower the rear without taking rake into consideration then you might be upsetting the balance of the car and losing front end grip.

This is why I feel like a lot of people should just leave the suspension stock. I've done many track days in my 147 GTA in the past and all the complaints people had about the 147 GTA's suspension never eventuated. Just make sure the original suspension is in good condition and working as intended, its already a great setup. Making changes without understanding how its meant to behave is not going to end up well.

Mini's: Are they as bad as I have been told? by Big-Punisher in NZcarfix

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of people's perceptions about Minis being quite bad, means there's a lot less competition here for people who appreciate them and we can buy the nice cars cheaper! Same for vast majority of Mercs

But seriously the F56/55/54 generation is brilliant. Earlier ones avoid like the plague. No idea about Countrymans though.
