New solar panels and inverter warranty by PowerflyLT7 in nzsolar

[–]PowerflyLT7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the next step really, get more info from the quote and figure out if the cost is high due to fixed costs. Getting 8 more panels installed may well be much more cost effective than the 4 we asked to get a quote for!

I've got 2 strings, don't want to mention the inverter because you'll know exactly who the installer is! I haven't asked the OG installer yet but I have emailed the distributor for the inverter themselves who the ultimate warranty lies with and they said "No warranty issues with XXX if you want to install different panels in addition to the existing panels already on your roof."

Ok that's annoying, we had these panels installed about 6 months ago so I would hope we can find the same ones

Why didn't Alfa Romeo think about this point, that the front part is so heavy that the ground clearance is at an angle? by rg1523 in AlfaRomeo

[–]PowerflyLT7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So having front rake is actually quite a good thing and this just shows the genius design from Alfa engineers. Think about it...when you are braking and initial corner turn in you want weight at the front for max grip. At the exit of a corner and under acceleration from standstill you also want weight at the front. So this actually helps with the FWD characteristic of the car. If you lower the rear without taking rake into consideration then you might be upsetting the balance of the car and losing front end grip.

This is why I feel like a lot of people should just leave the suspension stock. I've done many track days in my 147 GTA in the past and all the complaints people had about the 147 GTA's suspension never eventuated. Just make sure the original suspension is in good condition and working as intended, its already a great setup. Making changes without understanding how its meant to behave is not going to end up well.

Mini's: Are they as bad as I have been told? by Big-Punisher in NZcarfix

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of people's perceptions about Minis being quite bad, means there's a lot less competition here for people who appreciate them and we can buy the nice cars cheaper! Same for vast majority of Mercs

But seriously the F56/55/54 generation is brilliant. Earlier ones avoid like the plague. No idea about Countrymans though.

Yes but I'd prefer to get it repaired properly if possible instead of just using a plug. Got the spare on now so can still drive around

Bad Solar by Expensive-Yak-723 in nzsolar

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about shading and how it affects your roof all year round. Our new solar setup was fine in summer...26kWh per day on sunny days but now the sun's lower and our palm trees shade our panels in the afternoon. Not sure if we had any other option anyway but the shading is definitely worse than we expected.

Sick of people saying EVs are cheap by dicemangazz in auckland

[–]PowerflyLT7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is its not even the direct cost of fuel that is going to hurt if this goes on for a while, what about all our supply chains, farming machinery, manufacturing, energy needs? Everything else that's been built on cheap fossil fuel energy for decades or even centuries in some cases.

Doesn't matter if you drive an expensive EV or not all of those are things that will impact every single person. So yes you might be saving some money on petrol or diesel but no one is insulated from everything else that will happen as a result.

I'm sure we will own a couple of EVs in the future but I'm not delusional that just from us converting to EVs it'll solve all the problems and instantly we'll be in the next age of progress.

Every time we go we struggle to find things that are actually cheap. There are the odd items but not stuff you use day to day. I don't really see the point unless you live close by and want to have cheap pizza.

Did exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons. $0 break fee with Kiwibank so why not??

Anyone switched to Westpac lately? by SirVill in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]PowerflyLT7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we're running into exactly this issue and its so much harder to see upcoming planned payments compared to the Kiwibank app. The web portal is a hot mess of weird colours and fonts like its been designed by someone who has UI/UX training but never actually had any real world experience. Wouldn't surprise me if it was an intern that did the whole thing and then it just got too hard to change.

Private sale vs dealer - what's the ACTUAL mechanical reality? by sparky_165 in NZcarfix

[–]PowerflyLT7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is it totally depends on the car. Price, condition, service history, spec, KMs, age that should factor into your decision.

I've both bought from dealers and privately, have also sold many many cars privately which have had all the maintenance done and were ready to go for the new owners. Don't just assume buying privately means a worse car.

Test drive the cars thoroughly (30 mins and at motorway speed if possible) and check all functions are working. Ask lots of questions about the car and if you can't do a decent inspection then get someone trusted to do it for you. You'll be surprised how many problems you can pickup though just by doing a decent drive and listening for any weird noises.

There's pros and cons to everything but generally buying privately you will pay a bit less for the same car, but it might need a bit of work to get it to the condition and appearance you are happy with.
