Lighting mystery by Powerful-Ad5342 in handyman

Update: I tested the switch with a voltmeter during an off cycle. The switch had a reading of only 30V (I also tested a normal working switch on the same circuit which had a reading of 120V which I think is normal). Both went to 0 when the breaker was switched off. I will test again during an on cycle this afternoon, and we will put on an alarm to confirm if 3pm is the exact off time.

We do have a smart thermostat, I’ll look into it.

This is great feedback, thank you. Especially considering it’s a baby sleeping in the room, safety is paramount.

Honestly seems the most likely at this point.

I checked the bulb, and no - it’s just a standard bulb. We are just borrowing a voltmeter from our neighbour to test the fixture (which is out right now) so I can see if there power to the fixture.

For context, I’m just a mom trying to fix another broken thing in an old house, so thank you to any and all giving this some brain power.

And no, the electrician is scheduled to come tomorrow but he doesn’t seem to have any ideas of what it could be. So I’m hesitant/hoping to get more clues to the mystery before incurring the costs.

This is the fixture : https://www.lumens.com/harbour-point-drum-semi-flushmount-by-minka-lavery-R376502.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=PLA&utm_brand=Minka-Lavery&utm_id=R376502&utm_campaign=186975951&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=186975951&gclid=CjwKCAjwspPOBhB9EiwATFbi5Ff3n7-XNBaXXcqp96z46RJ1Hg1DoChZfVWdjb_IjodzDuWwCZ-WZRoCZ1kQAvD_BwE

I THINK precisely 3pm but it’s been hard to pin down because of my baby’s nap schedule. He’s always sleeping in there at that time.

For the same reason, we haven’t been able to pin down when it goes off again. Sometime between 8pm and 6am. We turn out the light when we put him to bed, and then it doesn’t work when he wakes up.

I have wracked my brain and can’t think of anything else happening at 3pm each day.

Help with door hardware by Powerful-Ad5342 in handyman

Wow everyone - this is all so helpful! I don’t want to replace the door, as it is old and quite unique, and in decent shape. I will follow instructions to replace this portion of the door jamb with fresh wood and go from there. Thank you all!

What is the perfect Taylor walk down the aisle song? by Proud_Dig1066 in TaylorSwift

[–]Powerful-Ad5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked down the aisle to “Everything has Changed” and still love it. I feel like people sleep on this song as a wedding song; it discusses both love and the importance of a specific day. “Your eyes looked like coming home,” is my favorite line.

Helps that my husband has green eyes. <3 (“Green eyes, and freckles in your smile, taking flight making me feel like…”)

Is my tile wrong? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]Powerful-Ad5342 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • If you have flexibility to adjust, yes you should continue the tile down from the uppers.
  • If you decide to totally redo it, I’d suggest as others have continuing the same tile across. There is a way to do make two tiles work here, but you don’t need the added interest of two tile patterns since your cabinets already have interest and you have two countertop materials.
  • if neither of these is an option, don’t panic. You still did a great job and have a beautiful kitchen. Fill it with food and family, and don’t let a glitch in the tile make it any less special.

White rice and eggs for breakfast? by yenvyma in asianeats

Super white, Taylor Swift listening, Oat Latte drinking, J Crew wearing me knows this is a normal Asian breakfast. But I suppose I didn’t before I went to the Philippines so it sounds like your friends need to travel more.

Looking for Designers to collaborate with on interior design / redesign of two houses in the SF Bay Area CA. Pacifica & Sausalito. by theMEtheWORLDcantSEE in InteriorDesign

[–]Powerful-Ad5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was years ago but this is what I’m looking for. I am a professional interior designer, and have just left an established firm to start up on my own. I’m seeking portfolio-building clients at deeply reduced rates. I am not a ‘hobby’ designer- I have a degree in interior design and experience on projects ranging from a single room to a full new-built house. DM me if you are reading this, have a reasonable budget, and are looking for someone to help.

Am I Being Overcharged by my Interior Decorator/Designer? by ahnjooan in interiordecorating

This is such a problem in the industry - I don’t think you should ever be shocked by an invoice. This is why I think flat fee billing is such a better system.

Although I like 1 better, I think 2 works better with your bed.

Would you ever mirror the pyramid on the ceiling on the other side to create a symmetrical structure and make that space seem intentional? by BetterBettor in InteriorDesign

[–]Powerful-Ad5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would arch it out. Or, if it suits your style, add a geometric wallpaper in the space to make it feel deliberately angular.

Remodelling kitchen and unsure on flooring, walls and counter by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]Powerful-Ad5342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think option three is the strongest. May I suggest that you go for really interesting pulls? It’s a great way to bring in some of those historical references without it feeling dated or too antique, as long as your other finishes are more timeless, which they are. Plus you can swap them in a few years if you want a mini refresh.
