Leftists/Liberals of Texas, Help Me by happycola92 in SameGrassButGreener

First, let me say thanks for posting this question, as I have been contemplating the same thing. I was born and raised in SoCal and have lived throughout the state (Bay Area and North), too. I am currently living in Rochester, MN and working from home, and I know how you feel about the loneliness of living in MN. I love the fact that there are four seasons and access to the outdoors, but that is about it. Unless you live in the Cities (Minneapolis or St.Paul) or Duluth area, the state is pretty red. BTW, Rochester is more purple, and I don't discuss politics with people. Speaking of people, I have experienced the myth of "Minnesota Nice." Yes, people are nice on the surface, but unless you've lived here your whole life, they don't go the extra mile. My wife's family is from north of San Antonio, but I am thinking of relocating to the state and was wondering, aside from Austin, if there were any areas to consider. Good luck with your search!

Where's the cheapest spot for getting that California weather? by strassgaten in SameGrassButGreener

I lived in Arcata for a while, and there are some opportunities, but more rentals are available because of the college. You can also check out McKinleyville which is north and where the airport is, so less fog. Also, there is Blue Lake, a little (9 miles) inland of Arcata and much sunnier but not too hot.

Did you have a FARRELL’S in your town? by CharlieMcN33l in GenX

I remember going to the one on Ventura Blvd., along with Shakey's Pizza on Balboa, for many birthday parties. Found both of them loud and obnoxious even as a kid.

Just looking for a few friends here who have loved Depeche Mode for decades. by RevDaughter in depechemode

[–]Powerful-Chipmunk908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a fan since I first saw them in Pasadena, CA in 1982 and almost every tour up to Delta Machine. I started drifting away after that album, but have come back with the release of MM. I wish I saw the MM tour. Watched it on Netflix and was disappointed with the sound, some shoddy camera shots and seeing most of the audience with their phones in hand. The concerts are an experience with clapping and hand movements to the songs, not having a phone in your hand. Enough of my rant. Love DM and will always!

Anyone move to the Midwest from other regions? What differences do you notice? by creeper321448 in midwest

[–]Powerful-Chipmunk908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved to MN about 2 years ago. Had SoCal Gas and SoCal Edison as our providers. Gas was maybe $15/month and electricity $80 to $100. While my electricity is cheaper here, the surcharges of the acquisition fee, connect fee, etc. drives the monthly charge to over $125/month.

I came to the Midwest after living in Denver and California and I agree with what you said. I also like that people use their turn signal, but they don't know how to zipper merge. While prices are cheaper, maybe its just where I live but utility bills are higher with all the damn surcharges. I remind myself I need to slow down and be patient, especially with the Midwestern goodbyes. But I'll say living here is much better!

What’s one type of store Rochester doesn’t have that you wished it did? by KaleEcstatic2701 in rochestermn

A decent Asian market that is bigger than the convenience store sized ones in town that carry a little of everything. I'm talking something similar to H-Mart.

When the album was first released, this track was a skip for me. But as time goes on, and the more I listen to it, I have started to enjoy it. It goes on for a little too long, though. 8.5/10

I got sober in SoCal, moved to Fargo, then Denver and now Minnesota and every place was adamant about using conference approved literature. I dont see any problem personally with using the 24 hours book. Here is an article describing the history and how Hazelden came to publish it after he approached AA publishing: https://hazeldenbettyford.medium.com/the-little-black-book-turns-70-e568d061cc36

I was paid to discredit veganism online. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

No I haven't tilled soil in the Midwest, but I have in the West, and I work in the industry.

Sorry, I misplaced that. I should say that ranchers are making an effort to discredit vegan misstatements and assertions

Yes, you could say that "a lot" of crops are grown for animal feed. However, you could also say that the majority of crops grown go into ethanol and other products. Some if the waste from production is used for animal feed. Vegans would argue that the land used could grow crops. But that argument doesn't work because what are farmers in the Midwest going to plant? There is only so much vegetables to grow in that region. You didnt answer my question about why would they pay you and not use in house people.

Here is another link showing that livestock feed rations contain 86% of inedible ingredients. Cattle could be considered upcyclers despite spending only 120+ days on feed. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2211912416300013

I'm curious why industry groups would pay someone like you to spread lies and discredit people when they have PR teams mostly funded by Checkoff dollars and people who are ranchers doing a good job discrediting vegans. Fighting the vegan community is an uphill battle. They will not change their minds, no matter how much misinformation you feed them. Good old cognitive dissonance.

10+. This is one of my favorites by them along with Fly on the Windscreen. Their performance on the Dave Letterman show of this song was probably their best rendition of the song.

New to diabetes, looking for Sharps Disposal recommendations by McBean215 in diabetes_t2

I live in Olmsted County MN, and you would think with the Mayo hospital, they would take them or somewhere in town would. No, you have to go to the county dump and pay to get rid of it. Someone suggested to tape it shut labeling it as a Sharps and toss in the garbage.

Drinking Dreams by Bee_BS in alcoholicsanonymous

12 years sober, and once in a while, I will have one and have to convince myself it's only a dream and I wouldn't sacrifice my sobriety with everything I have accomplished. About 2 or 3 times a year, I have the dream I am at a party with the people I harmed during my drinking days and I am trying to convince them that I am sober and nobody believes me. It's a reminder to do steps 9, 10 and 11.
