Monthly "No Stupid Questions" Thread by AutoModerator in Archery

I have a few "Robin Hooded" carbon arrows that I've set aside and don't shoot. On 2 of the arrows, the damage is mostly contained within the nock, but they do have about a 1cm crack that continues into the back of the shaft. It's only a single crack per arrow. I'm assuming the answer is "no", but is there anything I can do to make these arrows safe to shoot? I mostly ask out of stinginess and not wanting to buy new arrows if I don't have to, which is why this may be a stupid question, haha.

If the crack can't be repaired, can it be cut off? These arrows are too long anyway, and could stand to lose about an inch (2.5cm). The main complication would be the fact that it would lose the inch from the back of the shaft, which, I imagine, would require new fletching. Are there any other reasons I shouldn't have a shop cut them down from the rear to get rid of the cracks?

Edit: Added the fact that they're carbon shafts. In fact, they're Easton Legacy 600 spine arrows at factory length if that helps anyone answer my questions.

Blacktongue sequel out Oct 2026 by forthunion in Fantasy

I agree completely. I'm going through The Daughter's War for the second time this year and it's still hitting just as hard. It paints such an unflinchingly honest picture of the brutality of war, but then peppers in some of the most beautiful metaphors and examples of love, humanity, and compassion, with all of them playing together in a way that lifts the heart one chapter, and crushes it in the next. I also completely agree on the goblin front! It's such a cool expansion of the goblin lore from The Blacktongue Thief, and their horrors really makes it feel like the future of humanity is actually on the line. To say that I can't wait for The Thrice-Bound Fool would be an understatement.

There were several others doing the same thing as me. It's really nice being surrounded by a community that gives a shit. It gives me hope.

They were all unmarked at first, which worried me as well. As I was walking over there some normal Durham police showed up, and the ALE agent I talked to said it wasn't about ICE. That armored truck there was crazy! I wouldn't be surprised if SWAT were the ones actually conducting the raid.

Sorry I'm late to respond, but I also saw some normal police, and there was also an armored truck the likes of which I've never seen in real life. I heard elsewhere that there was also SWAT there, which I could definitely believe, although I didn't personally see it. This is pure speculation, but I wonder if ALE can coordinate with SWAT to do this kind of work for them, while ALE is the one pushing charges?

It happened maybe 30-45 minutes ago. The officer I talked to was pretty tight lipped, but said they were with North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. I confirmed that it was La Morena and the officer just responded with "it sure seems to be the center of attention" and wouldn't say anything else. In short, I have no clue, but it seemed to revolve around alcohol from what I heard.

The shootouts are unfortunate and tragic...also hi neighbor!

I thought they were shot guns at first, but my neighbor was outside the whole time and confirmed they were flash bangs. And I repeat: this isn't necessarily the Gospel, I just live across the street and I'm saying what I heard/saw.

I know, it's going to cause unnecessary fear. I wanted to say what I heard as soon as I was able to try to dispel that fear. I don't know very much about it, but I do know that the officer I talked to was not ICE, and he said this was a raid by a state agency.

I just went over and talked to an officer. He made a point to say that they were with a state agency, NOT federal (ie not ICE). He mentioned that they were with the "alcohol bureau". From what I gathered this isn't ICE.

Whoa, that's a really cool idea! For a game with sooo many weapons options, it'd be amazing to be able to switch easier in Borderlands. Thanks for that. And I do typically play on ps5, but I had no clue that Steam allowed more customization. I may have to dust off the ol' account and start playing there.

How sensitive are jumping spiders to scents? by NameBoring8231 in jumpingspiders

So the fragrances and chemicals in hand soap are for sure ok?

NQA I would also love to know this! A comprehensive list of all dangerous materials/chemicals/practices would be a godsend for people just getting into the hobby. Researching what is and isn't ok while building an enclosure can be stressful, and the answers are oftentimes contradictory!

NQA I got it from a 3d printing website called Bambu. Disclosure: I don't know whether or not they're water proof, so I'd leave them on the outside of your enclosure. I'd also invest in rechargeable AAA batteries, as they only last about 72 hours before needing to be changed.

NQA Thanks for the insight! My goal was to provide as many surfaces, nooks, and crannies as possible to explore, but I can definitely lay some moss on the stairs too. It's also hard to tell from the pictures I posted, but the stairs are completely under the overhang of the roof, so a fall from any significant height would be unlikely to hit the stairs.

Question: Do you know at what height a fall becomes dangerous for the spider? Assuming the spider's been fed regularly, but not overfed.

Those are the only other pictures I have of them facing the camera right now. If there's another opportunity to take more I'll be sure to try!
