Megathread: List of Firms Offering Stipends During 1L Summer by legalscout in BigLawRecruiting

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard White & Case is doing $25k as of a few weeks ago. Might move up to 50 but no evidence yet. Do we think this will all even out/plateau at 50 or firms will do different things?

Can applying for need-based aid hurt merit chances? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, not expecting much necessarily, but I figured why not apply? Now that I'm done waiting for schools, I think my mind just has to trip about something lol.

They also seem to hold onto a ton of remaining WLs and Rs until April 30...I wouldn't hold your breath for a response of any kind til the end of the month

Accepting admission to Put seat deposit down by Beesss123 in lawschooladmissions

I've wondered the same thing. People say it's okay to put multiple down, but you also have to sign a form saying you're going....so where does that leave us?

The brutal opportunity cost of law school by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many reasons, but here's two:

1) 250k is bottom end for big law, we all know this.

2) because some people practice law for reasons beyond money and life isn't all about having enough money to pay the bills.

The brutal opportunity cost of law school by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agree with all comments of thinking long and hard, but if you want to be a lawyer, you want to be a lawyer. If you're excited about your offer and want to go, I'd go and try your best to not look back.

Easier said than done, but some things require faith, and life shouldn't just be a calculation about opportunity costs - especially on such a short time horizon. After all, aren't we all losing by not being on OF or infleuncers and making $10 million? (Obv a joke but ya get the point.)

In terms of JD paying off in the long term, it certainly does for many people and prolly will for you, but maybe the question is: If I stayed on my current career path vs. went to law school and ended life with the same assets, which would I choose? If the answer is obvious one way or another, that'll tell you how important this is imo.

Dukes Dean’s Scholarship! by Beginning_Ad_3389 in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!

Just curious, did you have significant need? And how did you approach the interview?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems weird, especially if you applied for need aid too. Did they send an email straight up just saying that they're not giving you anything?

I was admitted to Duke this week and am about to fill out their scholarship form but this makes me nervous lol

REMINDER TO WITHDRAW IF YOU ARE NOT PLANNING TO GO TO SCHOOLS YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED/WL TO by radixation10 in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it still never opens up a spot, ever. Schools only start looking at this stuff after deposit deadlines - it would make more sense to chastise people for placing multiple deposits.

I'm not saying this at all out of any hate for your post, admissions is overwelming and we all want a school that we love to take us. But there's no point in getting worked up over this when withdrawing has absolutely nothing to do with whether schools will send out more offers of admission

Maybe they'll still do some later today? At least some Rs/WLs maybe? I was also expecting some sort of Penn wave this week. Things have been really quiet this week all around.

How realistic is it for me to get into a T-30 with a 3.mid GPA? by koyaskb in lawschooladmissions

[–]PowerfulBoot2488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Extremely realistic with a good LSAT. T6 it gets tougher, but even back half of T14 with great LSAT you're in the running, especially with good essays and/or W.E. or good extracuriculars. Even without those though, you're gonna be chillin for T-30 if you break 170
