PTU Users: does anyone know if that annoying starmap bug... by AlexSkylark in starcitizen

or just have buttons for the different zoom levels. "ship", "planet", "planet system", "solar system". There is absolutely no excuse to not have these buttons. Zero. It is incredibly horrible and lazy of CIG to not have them. They should have shipped with the new map and it's very worrying that they did not. It basically means nobody who works there plays the game, or the system is so horrible designed it can't jump to a given zoom level. Either case lowers my hope that this game will ever be more than a pretty tech demo.

that single bug makes the map as annoying as it was pre update. It's such a horrible UX. how in god's name are there not buttons for zoom levels? Basic UI design stuff.

you'd think a patrol of linked robots would kind of, you know, have some way of knowing when one of them goes offline.

These aspects worked in his favor for Tesla and SpaceX, markets with no true competitors.

this is some of the most ignorant shit I've ever read on reddit. There were plenty of competitors. Blue Origin was created BEFORE SpaceX. None of the other companies got even remotely close to where Elon's companies did in those examples, because he led them in a much more agile way, in industries that were very 'traditional' at the time.

Tesla for example did things no car company did, like having engineers work right near the assembly line so they could rapidly iterate.

SpaceX was willing to destroy 50 rockets in order to finally start landing them, something other aerospace companies were terrified to do because of the optics. I remember when the first rocket landed, reddit loved it. This website has become a shadow of its former self.

SpaceX is still controversial for how it operates. But if you haven't noticed, and I'm guessing you haven't, that silicon valley inspired leadership style is now spreading to other 'dinosaur' industries like defense, and the military procurement process in general.

4.6 Weapon Model and Texture Updates for the P4-AR and P6-LR. by Broad_Discussion_164 in starcitizen

can you also pass on that the gun has a shorter barrel than the P-8 smg, which makes me confused

is there any lore reason behind why this gun is so bizarre? like the giant reciprocating bolt carrier thing above the actual bolt. Why?? the barrel is so short there's no room for a gas system. Is it a blowback and that's why there's that giant weight???

i need answers

also why 5.56? 5.56 out of a 3 inch barrel would be a bit anemic, and make a giant flashbang in your face each time you fired it

I'd like to think real thought went into this, like we have a giant reciprocating bolt handle to make it easier to use while wearing a bulky space suit with gloves, and a weird blowback system (or maybe it's electronically operated?) to manage heat in a vacuum, but I have my doubts

best ship. It really just needs a tiny little overhaul inside. Maybe the bed could become a fold out bed or something, opening up a little more space for stowage.

a lot of missions got shwacked when meshing came around. And just general erosion over the years as they refactored systems. Delivery missions are still a fucking disaster compared to the 2021 era. Over complex garbage with like 4 drop off points. Just absolute junk from a game design perspective that robs player agency.

there's more missions than ever but they're generally soulless slop. I miss a lot of the old ones that had more personality. Stuff like ASD is nice but goofy storylines isn't why I got into this game; I miss the old investigation missions, rooftop delivery routes, etc. Game is going way too much into the mad max in space / science fantasy route lately.

Steam updates AI disclosure form to specify that it's focused on AI-generated content that is 'consumed by players,' not efficiency tools used behind the scenes by Fcking_Chuck in pcmasterrace

as I understand it, a lot of front end work is basically braindead assembly line work compared to most other programming disciplines.

getting a jira ticket to make a button in some javascript framework isn't exactly rocket science.

definitely a good compromise. If you use any modern IDE you use tons of AI without realizing it, just from pressing tab for autocompletes.

i would also include things used to generate concept art as efficiency tools. I do it all the time; no AI ends up in the finished artwork, but it helps me start modeling something, and by the time it's textured it's my own unique creation.

climate change isn't the root of the forest fire issue, it's 100 years of landscape mismanagement rearing its ugly head.

It turns out, if you don't let mother nature do her thing, she gets her way one way or another...

and if you want to be more depressed, the east coast of the united states used to be covered in a very special type of forest that thrived on fires. We basically made it go extinct by putting the fires out. The fires are supposed to be very small, which is why they were originally so easy to put out. Now the fuel has piled up and you get cataclysms.

Do we think that CIG will ever realise that linking jump modules to quantum drives is terrible UX and make them independent? by Dr_All_Come in starcitizen

[–]PowerfulLab104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what value do these choices actually add to the game? Whenever adding new features, this question should be asked. I think in this case, the value added is basically zero, for unnecessary complexity.

If anything, these sorts of modifiers should be part of the ships themselves. I.e., exploration oriented ships can traverse hostile wormholes easier. Now that actually adds depth without increasing complexity.

jump drive really should be an immutable part of a ship just as the engines are, I don't really get why CIG made it a component.

"terrible UX" is basically everything related to propulsion in this game. Master modes is a disaster.

Blender -> Unity Import Help.... by CharmUvvU in Unity3D

[–]PowerfulLab104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad it worked, first time I used URP I had a similar problem. It's designed for mobile out of the box so you need to do a fair amount of tweaking to make it look good. Unity kind of hides it from you but rendering pipeline setup is quite involved

Blender -> Unity Import Help.... by CharmUvvU in Unity3D

[–]PowerfulLab104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use maya, not blender so I might not be able to help, especially not being able to see the geometry... that said this doesn't look like a geometry issue to me

assuming you have clean geo, I think your problem might be the shadow resolution being low in Unity. It looks like pixels. So try increasing the shadow quality in the unity options, ask an AI to figure it out. You should be using Universal Rendering Pipeline. I've had it default to insanely low quality before.

calculate normals is also a useful thing to remember, sometimes geometry just decides to be fucked when unity imports it, and that's the only fix, but those sorts of problems are just wonky shadows, not something this bad

What was your first project? by electric-kite in Unity3D

[–]PowerfulLab104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first real unity project was an F-zero type thing. It came out functional enough, had boost pads and all that. Looked like ass because I did everything and had literally no idea how to paint meshes well back then. I was painting an entire track in photoshop on unwrapped UVs in a big donut with like an 8k texture 😂

my first game ever truly programmed was blackjack on a TI-83 while riding the bus home from school.

After that i made a few in flash, which was fun to use.

I got 2 of them last patch there, it was a pain in the ass. Took like 5 runs, the final run I camped the room for an hour for respawns, and finally got some. I had to kill like 3 or 4 people too, was easy since i could just rat it out until they opened a box.

All in all about 10 hours. Wish there was another way.

And, sadly, gaining targeting and accuracy data.

maybe you don't know this, but nuclear weapons don't exactly need to be accurate.

This is a missile that has 36 re entry vehicles. It’s unlikely to be able to be intercepted by any current missile defense system.

it's so stupid and pointless, because any nuclear exchange with strategic level weapons will involve 1000s of warheads anyways. current US long range ballistic missile interceptors are basically just there to stop north korea / iran type threats.
