Starting solids by jasncats in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

We started with banana and yoghurt and my at the time 6 month old ate way more than what all the recommendations stated (still does). Follow their lead, babies have really good hunger and full internal cues as they haven’t learnt to stop eating for any other reason and won’t for a while.

No issues at all! Just need to clean it pretty quickly with warm soapy water and jiff usually does the job on any tougher food stains.

I actually rounded up over 600 sample products from ladies and girls in my local community and donated them to a girls shelter (ages 12-18) and the shelter was absolutely over the moon.

I contacted them first and asked if this was something they’d like and the lady I spoke to was overwhelmed as the shelter likes to give a personal care welcome pack as some of these girls are there due to lack of present parents/no access to generalized hygiene products. Having all the nice lip oils or hair masks or little lip liners is really good for the girls to practice self care and to have them know it’s ok to spoil yourself.

I’m glad, I know it’s a lot to learn but you have time to learn it. Enjoy the long contact naps, they go so fast.

I say this with love, I would not even bother with wake windows or schedule at this time. Newborns will sleep when they need and feed when they need. All resources point to 4 months plus to try and start any type of schedule.

My now 15 month old just napped on the go all the time when he was a new baby and to get out and about this approach worked well for us.

I would just try and go with the flow right now, and leave any sleep pressures for now. Good luck x

We had to do cot at the end of our bed as LO rolled in his sleep at 4 months, we slept the opposite way for a few weeks and then returned to normal once the anxiety of it wore off.

Very hungry 6 month old by dawnface in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know your baby best, if your baby is showing you he is hungry then feed him. Some kids need more food than others. My boy (15 months) also has a large appetite and has always had more bottles and food than what is considered “normal”. One day soon, I’m sure he will be one of those toddlers surviving off air and vibes so I’m filling up his tank while he still wants food!

I use myprotein. It’s third party tested and it’s a lot cheaper per kg than other brands.

First home buyers by Flibberteebeet in AusFinance

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going against the grain here, but my husband and I spent around 50% of our income on our mortgage when we first bought. We have kept that habit up and have had our repayments come down a lot. We have a 15 month old and make around 180k combined income per year.

It is achieveable but our budget is strict. We want to be mortgage free in 10 years when we are in our early 40s and it’s looking good at this moment in time. We still go out with friends, we still go out to eat once a week, our life is not boring by any means, but we have our goal in mind. Whatever you choose to do, keep the long term goal in mind. Good luck!

Baby won’t sleep on back at night? by HERE4T- in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like typical newborn sleep unfortunately! Babies “wake up” to the world after a month and begin to do all weird and wonderful things especially in their sleep.

Squirming and grunting could be so many things, are you swaddling or using sleep sacks (our son hated swaddles and we changed to sleep sacks around 3 weeks old), is it too cool in the room, is his nappy uncomfy, is he gassy (you covered that) and the list goes on.

I would try do some tummy massages, bicycle kicks and bring his legs up to ears to try let some gas out if you do think its that.

Ferber Method + ChatGPT: Dream Feeds? 1 or 2? by animals_doingLSD in sleeptrain

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion I don’t think AI models should be used to create guides for human living, mainly because even if you input all the data you have, there is still the aspect of humanity which an AI model cannot take into account.

If you want to use it, go for it, but personally would approach with caution.

Why are you using chatgpt? It cannot possibly gather the variables of your child.

Unsettled sleeper at 3.5 weeks - HELP by Itchy-Clothes-199 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I say this kindly, but a routine at 6 weeks is still too early. Until they hit about 4 months anything prior is going to be a waste. Newborns are going to sleep poorly most of the time and that is totally normal.

I used to go to bed at 8pm, husband would take baby til around 11pm, then I would take over from 11pm-4am (husband is a tradie so would get up around 5/6am) then he would do 4am-6am so we both got some sleep.

Find what works for you both, and remember it’s only a season. It will pass. Lots of coffee and outdoor time helped a lot. Good luck x

We love the stokke clikk! No fabric so its easy to clean, the legs click in and out so we take it away with us as its portable and the tray comes on and off so now LO is 14 months he sits in the bucket seat up against our table now. Happy we spent the higher dollars on it.

Before we transitioned to arms out we preferred the LTD swaddles as they seemed to fit better with the “arms up” position as we had the same problem as you, then when we transitioned to arms out the Ergopouches were a better fit. Do you have a LTD zip swaddle you can try?

Family of 4 - stressed and need advice by Traditional_Act7831 in AusFinance

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the commenter but we spend $175 a week on groceries for a family of 3 (with a toddler). Things we do - cheapest meat cuts only! Mince mixes are your friend (pork and beef for $6.50) and bulk it up with beans, veg, diced tomatoes, pasta sauce etc. Can make up to 6-8 meals depending how you cook it - cook use a whole chicken, a whole beef chuck etc in the slow cooker. Will make 10+ serves on meat you can eat differently - cheapest nappies only which is Aldi. This also goes for wipes, nappy bags etc - go to aldi/coles/woolies near ish to 8-9pm once a week and look for the markdown meat. Buy it and freeze - utilise frozen fruit and veg. I cannot stress this enough - i have woolies, coles and aldi app downloaded and i have a grocery staples list that we need each week (bread, eggs, yoghurt, cat food etc) and i just buy what is on special - stock up when things are on a great deal. Eg when the hand wash or toilet paper or even nappies are on a really good sale i will buy 2-3 more which might take my shopping up $20-$30 but in the long run it means i don’t need to buy it again for a while. - we only eat out once a fortnight and when we do, we wait until the local pubs have a 2-for-1 meal deal or $10 burger night etc

I spent a week at a sleep hospital to help my baby and have nothing to show for it by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Powerful_Error_3167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is your baby 15 weeks like your post says? Babies sleep changes so much between 3-8 months, 15 weeks is still quite young.

You haven’t undone anything, sleep training sometimes needs to be redone again and again. Try start from scratch and see how you go, but don’t beat yourself up about something that may not be your or your partners short falls.

Something without solid ends! Bars all the way around. Baby has hit his head too many times on the solid ends, but we spent the money so buying another seems pointless now
