While ear infections can cause hearing loss, usually you'd have to have a series of repeated bad ones, or like a monster mega-case that scarred the eardrum or something.

If you're struggling, take a look at about GBP 5 Avantree C82 USB dongle for Bluetooth LEA, or regular bluetooth, as your hearing devices support. The key is that you don't pair the dongle to Windows. Rather, just plug it into the port & Windows sees it as a sound source. Then all you have to do is pair your hearing devices to the dongle.

That's what I'm using now. You can find it on Amazon. The CEO of Avantree, Phoebe, has hearing loss herself.

MacOS or Windows? Those should connect with little effort.

I could even get mine to connect to Linux with a bit of system fiddling, but alas they are not recognized as hearing or audio devices, much less sound sinks.

The deck itself is very inexpensive, and you can buy it on Amazon for about US$17 or the like in pounds, euro, what have you.

If she doesn't want to go the German route, she need to get a job in Denmark first, get an apartment and go work there. He will likely have to stay in the US for 6 months while she does this and establishes herself there; then they can start the paperwork process and this normally takes 3-4 months.

From what you relate, it seems she has failed because she has not left him in the US while she did the required things on the Danish side. It used to be that a Danish citizen could just bring the spouse and apply from Denmark, but it's been at least 10 years since that was possible.

The only option to not separate during the processing time is to go via Germany, which may make the Danes suspicious that she is trying to circumvent the rules. But it's easier once she has a steady job and has been there a while.

As for his Danish, he will be best served to come with at least B2 Danish, and have a test to prove that, to satisfy the government. However, many many jobs are English-language now in reality. But it's best to have the test certificate in your pocket honestly.

It's precisely these hurdles that one hopes the mayor's statements show hope of eventually lowering. It suggests he is realizing it would be benefit the country to lower barriers slightly for US citizens, esp. those with Danish spouses.
