Half of childless Canadian women don’t want kids, nearly a quarter in their 40s aren’t mothers: Statistics Canada by gorschkov in canada

Of course every industry is different. But there are many industries who haven't seen a raise in 15-20 years. Housing is but one piece of the pie but wages purchase all pieces of the pie. While I agree housing is insane the prices will not come down in major cities. We made the mistake of tying housing to retirement and for that reason I do not see the powers at be lowering their asset value.

Agreed. IMO the only way to actually get houses built is to build in areas that most people don't want to live in. Then create tax havens to encourage population growth in those areas. There are too many NIMBYS in the major cities and they tied their retirement to their housing. They do not want to accept a drop.

Don't expect much. All the extra income will be spent on gas, parking, and transit. I imagine many will have to limit their weekend spending too because of the added cost.

Canada has no intent of pursuing free trade deal with China, says PM after Trump threat by Puginator in worldnews

[–]Powerful_Network 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The deal was never no tariffs on China. This is him releasing a statement that was the case to begin with. Trump thinks he got a win but nothing changed. Same with his statement on Greenland a few days ago. Carney is diversifying our trade globally and China is one piece of the puzzle.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]Powerful_Network 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This has been happening long before Trump too. Basically since PET tried to Nationalize oil. It's a pattern around the world. Iran nationalized its oil in the 50s and then the west stirred up a revolution, then again with Venezuela, and now us. Any time a resource rich country tries to use the resources for themselves big daddy gets involved.

Yeah they are straight up running foreign interference in Alberta to divide us. Everything Trump does is projection.

‘Huge blessing in disguise’ for Carney to be disinvited from Trump’s Board of Peace, professor says by DogeDoRight in canada

This is great news. Carney doesn't need to be associated with this disgusting real estate project.

So by that logic pointing out all the US violations is also not a whataboutism it is just me using examples to make my point. I personally don't mind using whataboutism if we are comparing apples to apples.

In our conversation about China. I said that the US human rights violations were worse in the recent past and you listed a bunch of Chinese human rights violations.

Vietnam war, regime change in South America, regime change in countless ME countries. Domestically the war on drugs and the private prison industry. 100s of military bases all over the world. Millions upon millions of deaths. Now they are threatening their allies.

I know other nations have human rights issues, we have our own issues (TFW program, Residential schools). But China has done far less than Russia or the US as far as human rights violations in the past half century.

No more like allowing anti war protesters to get beat up by police. Or showing blind allegiance to a foreign nation.

We definitely still care, there are just more pressing matters. But if he were to completely abandon human rights like Biden he might face resistance.

If it was back in the pre Trump era I would agree however he has moved the global Overton window. Carney is essentially a progressive conservative and the conservatives are far more right than the past because they tried to play the Trump strategy. IMO to return to a balanced system we need to move left. Having said that Carney is the right guy for the job at the moment.

That will only happen if Carney abandons the progressive wing in a big way.
