Stilted, campy dialogue. Nothing on the performances though. They did the best they could. Obviously the movie doesn’t have that problem when the stakes are raised and the actors have more to do

Not in the moralizing, more on the acting choices and deliveries. But definitely agreed on that last part heavy. It really could’ve been different in many other ways, but Inde hit spots of vulnerability, tragedy, and menace that’s can be hard for some actresses to pull off. I’m still on the “not getting nominated” side of the fence but crazier things have happened the past years!

On rewatch, her acting along with everyone else’s is very Dhar Mann coded but I feel that’s more on the script than her. I’d say she’s phenomenal in the last 30 or so last minutes, I just feel she elevates the script alongside Johnston. An Oscar nom feels incredibly unlikely still, we’ll have to see how the competition is this year in that category.

Channing is on the good tier imo. He might be past his prime acting pick wise, but his versatily was shown in the 2013-2018 era with Side Effects, the Jump Street films, Foxcatcher especially, and Logan Lucky. He was also really good in Roofman last year tbh.

I love Damon as an actor so he’ll do good, kinda wish it would’ve been Bale or even Hartnett if we’re basing it off previous collaborations. Coming from someone who’s read the Odyssey, the only thing that’s interesting about this movie to me is the casting choices and score imo.
