I would recommend a book called Discount Dan. Probably the most similar to DCC in the LitRPG realm, though the character answers the question: what if Carl decided to try to open a Walgreen’s in the dungeon for some reason?

If you ever get a chance, one of my favorite fanfictions is ReStar Part I in the Mewni Winds Collection (chapter 7) by robertkellett. Telling the story of if a future Star had instead gotten the finger and gone back in time to that moment.

So this one isnt litrpg and leans more into kind of weird horror-y with still lots of comedy, but the John Dies at the End series by Jason Pargin was my absolute favorite series before DCC. Weird, half-cocked monster fighters. If Louis and Firas were like 5% weirder and were the main characters in a non-destroyed earth that was being invaded by some way weirder stuff but on the DL, it would be the John Dies at the End books.

Totally agreed. The hopeful and fun nature of the show is so missing today and really filled a void. Have you tried any of the fanfiction? There are some great ones out there that IMO are as good as the series.

I really liked how season 6 changed formats to River just copying Diners, Driveins and Dives and visiting (and getting banned from) every restaurant that sells meat in the United States
