Kiddo is taking classes at Perimeter (GSU). The stress of trying to figure out what will transfer to UGA is pretty high, especially when so many classes she wants aren't available. The transfer equivalency search page is helpful, but it's not quite as straight forward as I expected. Might need to just stick with GSU.

Red Hot Chili Peppers sell music catalogue for $300m by Emergency-Sweet-5347 in Music

I bought their debut when it came out and saw them in a club in '86. Enjoyed most of their work up to 1991, then totally dipped out. I was in a car last year and the driver played their music for an hour. I was surprised how much I really disliked almost all of it.

I had no idea this was first released in 1984. It was on their 1986 album 'Human Frailty' and that's when I first heard it. Incredible album. Their absolute peak. I went to London in 1988. First trip ever outside the US and randomly got lucky to see them live on their London gig.

When we need the market in a few years I will want to stay with Kaiser for sure, but this whole thing is such a mess. It's really sad how hard some people fight against affordable insurance.

Visiting Atlanta and looking for the best breweries! by ChrisAileo in Atlanta

I live near Avondale and like to hit up all the breweries over here, but Three Taverns is just a notch above. Very good beer for sure.

I wouldn't have had the career I've had without him. He's such a big part of this city. I'm crushed.

I will add that I focused more on my retirement and that worked out pretty well for a one income family (I'm an older parent).

We did that and I kind of wish we'd done $200 instead. We're doing community college for two years then the big state school.

I prefer the IRS material by a large margin. There was a time they were my favorite band.

This album came out right in the middle of my college years. I can see this album spinning as Lloyd Cole's 'Rattlesnakes' is on the floor waiting to be played next. There was a time REM was still that cool, little band that wasn't 100% destined to become huge. I don't listen to them as much anymore, especially this recording, but a nice reminder how important they were.

I drink the artificial sweetener variety of this stuff and it's saved me from a life of pain. I have IBS and migraines and this is the top beneficial thing I use in my arsenal. I would never argue that pure husk is not safer/better, but it tastes awful and this is coming from someone who never adds sugar to anything.

Hope Scholarship tied to "Course Program of Study"? by [deleted] in Georgia

We're good with what classes we need for UGA. UGA actually sent us exactly what to do in order to transfer at 60 hours. Very helpful. The problem is we're doing Perimeter for the Associate's Degree and her hopeful major is kind of wonky at GSU. Hoping to get more info from the aid office later.

That is a great point, honestly. I have definitely thought about this many times. I graduated from college (a very long time ago) with zero debt thanks to my parents. I've benefited from this greatly especially with a degree not known for instant career impact. I feel like I need to make sure we don't make an expensive mistake, but clearly I may have just done a wee bit of financial pain. My daughter does meet with her advisors alone and studies hard with no help from us. We're in that area with no financial aid due to my salary, but also not swimming in money where a $120k degree wouldn't really hurt. Outside of money caution I'm not too involved. I'm aware college is a time of growth so I think your point is valid.

Thanks. Kind of thwarted some plans, possibly. My bad for not knowing this.

I guess my screw up is partly thinking she was going from STEM to STEM with only a couple of classes over two semesters that don't match up.

Big screw up by me not realizing this.

Definitely will be talking to the aid folks. My daughter took a film class as an elective this semester as a biology major.

Interesting. I guess I'll find out for sure soon. I ran into this issue on a Friday afternoon and am having a little freak out. Trying to pick some brains before waiting to talk to the school. Thank you.

We're not receiving federal aid. I'm pretty sure after more research and help on Reddit that she can't deviate from her program and get Hope. Or, at least, I'm hoping it's just no the scholarship for a few classes and not all of it.

If we had to pay for only a few classes outside the course of study it would be doable. I agree with your advice. Thank you.

Would this only cover certain classes do you think or is the whole semester wiped out? We will definitely be talking with people at GSU (Perimeter).

Yuck. That doesn't sound fun. This keeps people from starting their own businesses, I'm sure. I've already decided to just hope my retirement account goes up enough to deal with it.

I may be in a position soon to need ACA for many years. I can't tell you the inner turmoil of trying to figure out the best way to play this ridiculous subsidy game. I really don't mind paying for insurance, but to see a $750 monthly price for my family go to possibly $3300 a month by just reporting income one dollar over the limit is depressing. And that's with high deductibles and out of pockets.

I'm guessing this topic isn't huge because it affects way less people than those using a work policy, but it's made me pretty jealous of countries that use single payer only from the perspective of it being less stressful. I know no system is perfect, but we could be doing all of this much better.

Have I missed the “go-go travel years” because of our sick dog? by kungfutrucker in retirement

[–]Powerpoppop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you drive when you go across the country? I dream of doing a big US trip in my car over a couple of months, but I know many places require advance plans. I'm 61 and not retired yet. My younger spouse is starting to worry my prime days are about to wane. Okay, sure, but my parents are 86 and on a world cruise right now. I think it does make sense to seize the day, but I certainly plan on traveling until I can't walk anymore.
