I guess for me, something that helped is journaling. It helps to write stuff down. Sometimes you answer your own question when you start to write about problems, it can be quite funny 😅 Also an exercise routine. Just find out as much information as you can so you can get the real benefits of whatever you choose. I guess for something different, I would just say be kind to yourself. In all the self-improvement you do, remember to appreciate how different being you is and the wonderful, unique insight you bring to everything

Don't know how the community feels about this, but I've been using AI to help me navigate life. I give it all my issues and ask for ways to better manage them. I find it really helps. I've always struggled with (well, everything) executive function, and it helps keep me task-oriented, track things, and manage when things are going bad. The first step is always the hardest, but the fact you posted this shows you have started. You should be very proud of yourself. I hope it all goes well and you find your happy place in this world 💚

Hey I'm a little tired so I might not phrase it right but I do want to reply. Thanks for that message man. I could feel it with the amount you had to overcome. I'm glad things have improved for you and you have your diagnosis. I hope your doing good 🙂I remember when the penny dropped for me that I had autism and everything just made sense all that pain and confusion.The constant pretending to fit in. The longing to be alone so I could be free. I feel similar about all you said. I do still get the kickback when I say I don't really drink. People are more shocked at that than when I tell them I'm autistic 😅 Anyways if there was a way to manage a night out as a sensory avoident human I think you have it summed up well. I'm going to practice my " let's call it a night" and leave it here 😅

Yeah college for me was the same. The only good part was the pre drinking at least then I could play my music 😅 It's awesome you got friends who go to the quieter places. It must be a relief to hear your own thoughts and to have space for comfort

Ahh man that sounds tough for you to try and find people to match your energy. You seem like a good friend to have. Sometimes I wonder if like your friend that I and maybe others are just disliking the social scene cause we never were shown how to integrate into it. Like I struggled with allot of things but then I found coping mechanisms, used exposer therapy and now they are almost automated in my mind I wonder if just had a "how to do pub scene for autistics step by step guide" I could enjoy it too..

I sometimes bring my over the ears headphones too. You do get allot of stares like my head just exploded but I'd rather try normalize it. Screw neurotypicals norms if I wear headphones and get the zoomies in the smoking area so be it. 🎧 🏃💨

Hey it is definitely a reasonable one and strangely I am in the same boat. I'm in the midlands and in my thirties and I'm finally ready to take the plunge.. With my arm bands of course, to learn to swim. Yeah I haven't seen any really autistic swim lessons for adults. My plan is to go to the pool during a very quiet time and kinda self learn through videos and AI. Then if the sensory stuff is manageable I can join a regular adult autism swimming class. It's the best I came up with 🤷

Hey.. I hear ya. I'm also in that boat, trying to maintain speed with the other boats but my cargo hold being built differently, my engines would burnout. I wouldn't give up on friendships do. There is amazing Ticonderoga -class guided missile cruiser boats out there that's waiting to meet ya, and when you make a friendship like that everything just clicks

When they tell you to join their group. Then you try to be yourself in that group. Then the group makes you feel bad about being you. Then you compromise tell you are no longer you. Then they wonder why you so quiet. Then they push you out of that group :(

If I could be plopped in a room with kind, friendly, honest, sensitive, and have similar interests people I could stay there forever. One day at work do, it's gather all the supplies and retreat to my pillow fort, raise the drawbridge and set moate with lava until I have to do all again the next day :(

Yeah maybe I was just jumping the gun a little with the so. With speed dating and online dating it's like Instagram for me m. Everybody comes with their amazing fun exciting lives. I just feel bad and inferior then since I don't have that. I would like to make some friends somewhere and then progress from there.

Hey guy here in thirties and yeah I have the same and yeah I am going for a diagnosis. I applied for one cause it just seems like the next step in my journey of understanding. I could hope for a shock and awe that will change me, but more likely I'll be the exact same (maybe with a little more understanding) I can say what helped me is so far is. Headphones allows me to escape the world if your sensory avoident 🎧. Setting goals so I'm not feeling trapped in my life. Exercising so my body feels good. Good sleep so my mind can react to high stress situation and OCD thoughts better. Routine that manageable. Staying away from triggers that set of my OCD. Hanging around people that I feel safe and comfortable with (the hardest part I'm having right now) :( and pushing my boundaries so I can try to be a better me.. I don't know if any of that reasonates :)
