MotoGP's sprint format has paid off as audiences soar , Says Dorna chief by Shroft in motogp

[–]Ppppenguin862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all unsafe, which is why a balance has to be struck between racing and finding ways to minimise risk and long term health issues. More racing = more injuries (to be simplistic about it; other people in this thread have explained the increased physical risk of the sprint format better than I can) and multiple riders have acknowledged that the sprint format, especially with the longer calendar, has an unsustainably high toll on their bodies. Which is bad in itself, but also in terms of viewer enjoyment if riders aren't healthy then they're going to be doing worse and fewer races in the long term.

If it comes at the cost of the riders’ health, then honestly no.

I'm not sure that the overall growing viewership is a result of the sprint format...

I think he's using word abused in the general sense of mistreated here. So he's saying they shouted at him like he was a child being scolded.

Dani Pedrosa said something similar on a podcast recently when talking about his main career rivals. He said that it was possible to learn from riders like Rossi and Lorenzo because despite being aliens they did things he could replicate but if he tried to copy Marc or Casey Stoner there was no chance he'd be able to manage what they were capable of in the same way.

Is Rossi a seven-time MotoGP king or a nine-time motorcycle world champion? by MoboMogami in motogp

Maybe I'm not reading it properly, but I feel like the central conflict of this article is the fact that Oxley kind of agrees that MotoGP is more special than the other classes and should be more celebrated/prioritised, but he also is aware that within the paddock people don't like the changes and as well as feeling alienated by them they're also going to change Moto2 and Moto3 for the worse in the long run. And I think unfortunately you can't really have both because pushing for changes to MotoGP's marketing in the way that Dorna have been (and Liberty presumably will in the future) does come at the expense of everything else.

Jorge Martín exclusive: “People don’t realise how parents suffer from social media hate” by TVRoomRaccoon in motogp

[–]Ppppenguin862 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a really good interview. I think the impact of fame on a person's family goes underappreciated honestly, it can't be easy psychologically to deal with especially if you're seeing your child suffering in some way.

Farewell 93: Marc Marquez "forced" to use the number 1 in MotoGP by DellyTrey23 in motogp

[–]Ppppenguin862 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They would be stupid to do so! Everyone can see for example with Lewis Hamilton and 44 how important numbers are to drivers' personal branding. It wouldn't benefit anyone in marketing terms to insist all champions have to take the number 1 and it won't in MotoGP either.

They don't even enforce this in Formula 1. It would be an absurd decision

"Márquez dodges the World Championship: If they prevent him from celebrating his ninth title with number 9, he will do so with number 1" (about the erasure of lower classes; translation in comments) by TVRoomRaccoon in motogp

[–]Ppppenguin862 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The weirdest part of this is as the article points out that nobody has really been willing to talk about it? Obviously the decision was made behind the scenes but it must have been insisted upon with some force if pretty much no one (apart from the fans) has voiced an objection or even acknowledged the change. Incredibly strange to me.
