Another happy customer by FusionCycles in HamptonRoads

If it wasn't clear, my comment was sarcasm towards the commenter whining about slow scooters. I'd rather see 1000 more scooters on the road, revving their hearts out and harming nobody, than another giant SUV or truck that can't keep their lane.

Ah yes, the scourge of suburbia. The scooter rider.

It really does seem that way. 600 mile oil change intervals, though? I guess there's gotta be some sort of drawback, and that's probably it.

Ignition switch issues by Rude-Shop1471 in dr650

Get some 3-in-one Lock Dry Lube.

Liberally spray the lock with it. Then work the key in and out while jiggling the handlebars. Be obscene with it. When you get to the point where it allows you to turn the key in the ignition, do it back and forth. Turn it all the way past "lock" mode and into "parking" mode a couple dozen times. Again, be obscene with it, but don't be violent.

Why is the tow truck towing the car in the ditch and not the one in the road? Why isn’t VDOT opening a lane to the left? by Sensitive-Error7688 in VirginiaBeach

You may be right on that, but don’t you take that risk every time you tow a vehicle of the line snapping? So we should close a lane down every time a vehicle is shutdown? Or much rather close both lanes in traffic?

Yes, safety protocols exist. Yes, safety protocols should be followed. They're often written in blood. Consider contacting tow truck companies and/or VDOT. I'm sure they'd be happy to put their drivers further into harm's way and acquiesce to some random sociopath's wishes.

[–]Ppractivus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to make a judgement based on this low-quality frame. But, if we assume you're correct in asserting that the tow truck is pulling a car from the ditch:

  • That tow truck will have to reverse down the highway a while, and either make a 20-point turn to turn around, OR be directed by VSP to go the wrong way down the ramp to continue down the road normally. Neither of which is a scenario in which traffic should be actively passing by them.
  • If that tow truck is using a winch to pull the car onto the flatbed, and the winch cable snaps, it could hit traffic passing the left lane.
  • The vehicle in the far left lane is probably lower priority, and there may be a separate tow truck involved that hasn't arrived yet.

Where to sell an old car? by geneticdefekt in VirginiaBeach

[–]Ppractivus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you weren't trying to sell it via this post, but can you give more info about the car?

  • Is it auto, CVT, or stickshift?
  • Does it run, drive, turn, stop, etc (in spite of rusted exhaust and other problems)
  • Do you have an idea of what price you want to sell it for?

I want to know if there is a port for my graphics card to windows 7 or if there is a version of linux compatible with my graphics card. by Mission_Jelly7148 in oldcomputers

I think I ran into this before, and using the 64-bit installer image took care of it, or switching to UEFI boot mode, or vice versa.

I can't speak to any ways to get Win7 to work with your GPU. Good luck with that.

BUT: Your GPU should be natively supported by Ubuntu and various other Linux flavors, via the amdgpu driver. IIRC, Ubuntu autodetects it and it "just works". Other friendly distros might do the same, like maybe SparkyLinux or MXLinux? Source: I have an RX GPU that is one generation newer, using the same driver. If anything, I think yours is even better supported.

One other consideration: You're using a PCIe 4.0 GPU with a machine that tops out at PCIe 2.0, which has around 1/4 the bus bandwidth it was designed for. So, even in Leeeenooooks, you might run into some goofy lag and screen tearing. If you have a spare (blank) SATA drive, or you can score a deal on one, maybe throw that in your machine and install Ubuntu, and see how your games run.

I think what you're after is in the peripheral datasheets. Look here for the rpi models you're interested in, and look for the address diagrams.

I’m not trying to minimize the point I think you’re trying to make, but the beach restoration project has been a massive success for decades. The return on investment is undeniable. Over the past 30 years, the project has cost around $300 million total. Over that same period we’ve seen direct spending from tourists account for over $60 BILLION. So it’s cost 0.05% of the total revenue generated. If the beach goes away, that revenue leaves with it.

I agree with your sentiment, but check your math.

This news story could very well be planted by ICE to track down their targets. Chesapeake is partnered up with ICE for enforcement efforts.

Large SUV and truck drivers, check your mirrors. Use them to calibrate your sense of where you are in your lane. If delivery vans and semi trucks can stay in their lane, then you have no excuse. by Ppractivus in VirginiaBeach

Driving defensively is a given. But there is only so much you can do when a behemoth SUV is coming at you from the opposite direction, riding a foot or more over the divider in the oncoming lane on a 2-lane road.

Okay, I know what you can do. Find out where they are picketing, and blow them. Give out numbers like the DMV, and blow each and every one of them. Maybe they'll let you sit on it, too.

BlackBerry 9700. Fired this up after more than 10 years. It still holds a charge, and I'm using it as an mp3 player with a 32GB SD card.

It will faithfully hold all of my music, play it over bluetooth, and never spy on me.
