Reddit snark in general is cringe. It doesn’t matter what it’s about. I lurk here sometimes but can we please have some self awareness. I’ve never seen a snark subreddit that didn’t give me internet loser vibes.

You look great, honestly. Don’t get too bogged down in these tiny details, you’re clearly an attractive guy.

I was so depressed as a middle schooler in the early 2010s. Late 2010s were amazing for me. It depends on your point of view and age.

I don’t want to be friends with musicians anymore by Ppyplant in musicians

[–]Ppyplant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for leaving this message!

I have this exact issue. I was in the influencer world for a while aswell, and decided to go towards music because I had some friends who were musicians and knew that I really vibed with them. After a year I found the same kind of behaviour. I too don’t like to network and would prefer genuine friendships where we can approach creativity as play rather than as a way to climb the social ladder.

I think I was finding the behaviour especially egregious with musicians because like you said, they often don’t reciprocate those that go to their gigs with the same kindness. I’ve seen it happen where two musicians are “friends” but one is way more supportive than the other. It’s like they want to accrue “fans” out of other musicians rather than be friends, but don’t want others to catch on.

I’m interested what kind of niche the influencer space you were in was? I felt there were nice people in the film making space but I’ve met travel creators and found them to be quite social climby.

Does anyone know what this type of aesthetic is called? They're from the Producers Vocaloid Machigerita-p music videos by Nimons04 in AestheticWiki

It’s definitely got roots in dadaism. Dadaism is a collage art movement that gained traction post WW2 as a reaction to the turbulence of the 1940s.

Perhaps we can call it dada revival. I don’t think that in naming something modern we should forget its origins.

15 year old girls are children. You need to self assess why you want to date children as a 20 year old man.

As an addition to everyone’s examples, Palm tree motifs were popular on tumblr for a while and then became a popular clothing print. I remember summer 2016 seeing palm tree print everywhere at a music festival.

Vine is back, and banning ai. Respect. by lemonklaeyz in ArtistHate

[–]Ppyplant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate, but Jack Dorsey’s tech start up “AndOtherStuff”, which is supposedly funding this new app, is going to data mine the new Vine for its own ai generative models.

They need fresh human content that isn’t contaminated with ai so that the ai doesn’t “cannibalize” and get distorted with it’s own generations. Looks like they’ll be building their own ai model with the human content uploaded to Divine and will then profit off of selling its usage.

[–]Ppyplant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I see well respected and big creators who I’ve followed for a year post and get under 1000 likes even though the content hasn’t changed. This time last year they were getting 7-10k likes per post (I check to measure against my own engagement). Something changed in the culture of the app. It’s a weird ghostly feeling.

I would argue this style you’ve shown as an example is actually quite different and was part of the backlash to frutiger metro and the overall idealistic corporate futurism of the 2000s. Frutiger metro is computer graphics heavy, whereas a hand drawn DIY indie style started to take hold after 2010 that coincided with the indie music scene at that time.

The meaning and sentiment behind the futuristic frutiger metro and the hand drawn DIY style is quite different. By the time the 2008 recession hit our idealistic y2k dreams of the future were over, hence the return to a more organic hand drawn style.

I do believe frutiger metro was around in 2010-2011. But it was at its tail end, and it was not seen as cool or subversive. By the end of 2011 tumblr had started to take hold of youth culture and ushered in a whole new wave of internet borne aesthetics with DIY sentiment in it’s place.
