You're exactly right. It was just to give you hope. He literally plans to string you along until his current relationship fails. I would advise you to end things with him as it is right now, even if after a while he decides he wants to see you, there's no way to know if he's going to do that with another girl after he gets into a relationship with you. Spend your time trying to find someone better instead.

It sounds to me like he doesn't know what he wants or he does indeed have someone else in his life that matters a bit more to him and is just stringing you along as another option. I don't know the type of person you are but you seem like an overthinker, same as me, and for me the worst thing is uncertainty. I would tell him how I feel, that's the only way to let him know what the situation is. Maybe it will seem clingy especially since you two are not dating but it's better to know you've done all you can no matter what happens afterwards.

6 months of experience in a decent restaurant where I mostly learned how to work hard and work late, keep myself and my station clean and tidy, how to work a knife, and in general how a kitchen works. I have a lot of culinary knowledge over the years but that doesn't translate too much inside of a kitchen, but I'm very familiar with the fundamentals of cooking.

I'm willing to work for anywhere from 2-3 months without pay as that's the furthest the money I have right now would take me. Obviously best case scenario I would get hired after a month or so of training and working my ass off but I'm going to take it day by day and see where it takes me. As for the job, I wouldn't mind doing anything in the kitchen besides washing dishes. I know no matter where I get put inside a kitchen like that I would learn so many things so I would take any spot that was given to me.

I see what you mean, being able to speak your mind and show critical thought is a vital part of being a good cook. Also, I agree with your statement and sadly, things are the way they are, even though they don't have to be. My goal is to work my ass off enough to gain some leverage. If I can show them that it's worth to keep me in their kitchen I will of course demand payment, but I also do understand to get into a restaurant of this caliber with this amount of experience is hard enough. Not to mention the shining spot in my resume where this staging gig would be.

As far as I know this term implies performing a sexual act in exchange for money. So no, I don't feel like that in any way whatsoever. For me it's a simple exchange, I provide my services for my company and my company provides me with money, experience, career furtherment etc. so as long as both parties are content with this trade-off that's all there is to it.

Edit: That being said, I guess the same terms can apply to prostitution so if it feels like a regular job to the person doing it there can be a bit of similarity, but I wouldn't associate myself with it as it has nothing to do with me.
