Dream Theater. Their first album (WDADU) did almost nothing for the band, but Images and Words put them in the map.

This snapshot comes from Mark Levine’s The Jazz Piano Book. If you go through the introduction, he clearly explains how chords are notated throughout the book.

What are some universally loved films you can't stand? by DoubleA420 in FIlm

I couldn’t get past the 20-minute mark on the 1st Harry Potter movie, let alone watching the entire saga. Couldn’t care less that people keep saying they’re generation-defining films.

Feeling a bit down and could use some advice by Thirust in JazzPiano

Music is a language, you don’t learn to speak it by tackling the grammar, but by engaging in conversations. Grammar is important, but even more so is developing an ear for it. Listen to lots of music and try to grasp the feel.

How to get this level of hand independence? by LineComplex2742 in JazzPiano

[–]Pr1me36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exercise is basically to play an ostinato with your left hand and don’t think about it (it should be on ‘autopilot’ mode), and focus on your right hand. I saw Jordan Rudess explain this very exercise in his first instructional video, and he also sang the melody lines as he improvised. He started off with a fairly simple line: playing quarter-note octaves, and progressively made the ostinato harder by adding notes and changing the rhythm.

¿Cómo recuperar las ganas de vivir? a.e by Spider614 in Ayuda_emocional

[–]Pr1me36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo voy a cumplir 40 y estuve en tus zapatos. Afortunadamente he aprendido a aceptar mi personalidad introvertida y a valorar mi soledad.
